Draughn big.Friday night for all the WHC marbles….
He really was a home run hire for them. He is respected in that community and will probably be their coach for as long as he wants to stay. It's a shame because I know he applied for the Freedom job (he graduated from FHS about 20 years ago) a couple of times and never even got an interview. And that's not to say anything bad against coach Hawn who is doing a good job, but we might have avoided a lot of chaos by giving an alumnus a shot at the job.As a Burke County native, I have a great deal of respect for what Coach Powell has done down at Draughn. He has turned a program around and brought a sense of pride to that Valdese community that has been missing for many years. That being said, I think the Wildcats claim the first championship in school history.
how is an enrollment of 600 kids 2A level? draughn is the smallest school in burke county with PATTON and EAST BURKE both being 2A, and FREEDOM 3A. your comment made no senseBeing bigger than some 2a didn't hurt either.
That's a excuse sorry dude.....when I graduated at E.Burke enrollment was around 1200......we played 4A.....so we played big city teams in the playoffs with 2000 to 2500 enrolled. Its not how many you got its the firepower.....been in a few firefights in my day we where always out-numbered but never out-gunned....lolBeing bigger than some 2a didn't hurt either.
No your right 1200 to pick from when other school has 1200 more to pick from. Got it!!Andrews vs Draughn
3x bigger.
1200 to 2400 is only 2x bigger. Not the same.
He was one of few guys freedom passed on through the yearsHe really was a home run hire for them. He is respected in that community and will probably be their coach for as long as he wants to stay. I don't know about a state championship but it would have made a difference which freedom has had their share kids coming there as well. I'm a freedom Grad and I do feel that there are 2 or 3 guys who could have helped freedom make a run. I will get back to the subject and I think Chris Powell is one of the coached around this foothills area and has done great at draughn. And I’m not sure if you agree but in my opinion it cost freedom a state championship due to the pieces that left or never went to freedom …![]()
What cost Freedom a shot at a possible state championship was losing coach Helms after the 2012 season when he took us to the regional finals. He got fired over an altercation with his son after a JV basketball game. And I’m not sure if you agree but in my opinion it cost freedom a state championship due to the pieces that left or never went to freedom …![]()
Good luck to the Cougars. Will be a tough hill to climb but that’s why they play the game.
And very likely, too much talent for everyone in the conference next year. Time will tell. Remember, almost of all the skill players will be back with the exception of 2. Entire backfield and most of receiving core are just juniors. Line will be solid again next year.Robinson has done probably his best coaching job with this team. The team is sophomore dominanted . Draughn has to much talent for us this year. But with the transfers heritage will be loaded next year.
While I appreciate your reply it is not about transfers it is about investing in player development and setting expectations. Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. I preach that **** to the kids.He doesn't get percentages.
200-600 is not the same as 1200-1600. It's much larger.
Actually 200-600 is a bigger gap than
1200-2400.
I'm assuming Draughn fans ain't all clueless about that.
10-15 playing on Saturday?
That's unheard of in 1A unless your a charter or got a bunch of transfers.
Good luck. Probably got two more chances after this year then back to 2a.
I have nothing against any of these teams, and I am not asking you to believe it, believe how you choose, but Draughn will have 5 - 8 that will play D1. Everybody thinks if it ain't Power 5 it ain't D1. All Ivy League schools are D1, group of 5 and then you have FCS. We currently have at least that many being recruited by D1 schools. If you get the opportunity to see us on the field you will get to see for yourself.I have nothing against Draughn but they don't have 5-8 D1 acholarship players I can assure you that.
If you have 5-8 D1 scholarship players nobody you've played so far would have been within 50 points of you and you damn sure wouldn't have lost to East Burke. But carry on with the sales pitch...I have nothing against any of these teams, and I am not asking you to believe it, believe how you choose, but Draughn will have 5 - 8 that will play D1.
