FT's Come Back To Bite Us

If we made FT's ….we win this game.

If Johnson were coached to stop trying to set screens (I posted another thread on this already) he would have contributed more rebounds / blocks...I want this Illini team at the RAC.

I want Pike to outsmart the analytics from Illinois … and get our players shooting / making baskets without fumbling or over thinking it.

Last Mulcahy is great....but he needs to look for and shoot/ make a few so that his passing is honored.

I don’t think it was the FT shooting that cost us the game. It was being out rebounded on the O glass that cost us.

For sure but missing 5 FT in 3 point game. If my calculations are correct...

Eh you can’t say it’s a direct impact because does JY and Mathis hit those two 3s late if we were winning, etc

Nah probably not direct impact but in such a tightly contested, defensive game every single point is critical. Certainly could have made a difference. We'll never know.

They had more second chance points than us. Did you calculate that into your formula. I hear you about missed FT and that was certainly a factor but the second chance points count more because it’s a chance we don’t get to score vs them getting 2.

Illinois shot eleven more free throws, and we still missed two more than they did.

FTs were the absolute difference. One team shot under 40%. The other shot over 80%.

In a game decided by 3 points..that’s the deciding factor right there.

Spot on comments because both teams shot poorly but Illinois had more offensive opportunities because of rebounding.

RHJ 2-4 misses hurt more after 12 of 12 than Shaq Carter's 1-4. He shouldn't be taking FTs. We had no continuation FTs where Illinois had a few floor or continuation fouls called "shots". Offensive rebounding died when Myles took himself out of the game with dumb fouls on his 2nd and 3rd foul.

they really werent the difference..what was the difference is RU didnt get to the line..only 4 times...thats more of an issue. Harpers misses were early in the 2nd half, game changes alot by then, no direct impact really

Bac

Disagree.

The games when we started off 14-0; 17-0...helped us to win. Points missed provide impetus for the other teams psyche. Points made put distance between us and the opposition and also act as negative momentum for the other team.

Bottom line: all points count!

If we were in the SEC, we could have a "bounty" for each FT made! $100 apiece sounds about right. :Okay

FTs were a huge issue. it kept Ill in the game. Props to Ill they defended their home court. This game goes the other way if played at Rutgers. And lastly....we need Geo back, I love these guys, and JY is coming around more under control, but Geo is the difference in a game like this.

The crazy thing is that Carter went 1/4, and he's a 71% FT shooter, and Harper missed his first two after going 12/12 the last game.

Still even if we'd made a couple more, it would have been 63% from the line and still a loss.
