Frost not a slam dunk

Watched my first UCF game yesterday and caught the 4th Q. It was not impressive, from a coaching aspect:

  • 4th and a foot, they still line up in shotgun, and failed to convert late in the 4th quarter. I understand that's their offense but I call it stubbornness.
  • With under 2 minutes and up 8 pts they allow a 1 on 1 matchup with a LB on a RB, and give up a 65 yd TD pass, with ZERO safety help.
Frost may do well here, but to be considered a slam dunk I think you have to have some hardware as a head coach, from either a P5 team or NFL.

You are right......lets go find another undefeated coach that has had less than two mistakes in a game. I'm sure they can't wait to come coach at Nebraska.

A few years ago Beilma was a slam dunk hire for Arkansas. McElwain was a splash gore for Florida. Who knows what will happen. But Frost seems as good as option as any.

Correct me if I’m wrong, was that not a rated team that UCF played? UCF won didn’t they?

Every coach makes stupid calls, that is unavoidable even with Nick Saban.

You do understand that Frost runs a spread option offense, right? They don't line up under center so why expect them to?

That is his offense, I suggest you get used to it and embrace it. I saw them go five wide on 4th and 1 a couple weeks ago, ran QB power for 65 yards.

Jim Harbaugh was a slam dunk. Ohio State just went up 31-20 at Michigan.

Wait....whhaaaaaatttt.....nope. He’s no good. Can’t hire him. He doesn’t do the “Husker” way. He should have been out there with 3 TEs, FB and RB and ran it straight up the gut, right at them. No excuses dug nabit. Nope, can’t take him, don’t hire him. He’s a horrible coach and we’d be stupid to hire him after that.

That may work against Austin Peay or Cincinnati but you try that in the B1G and start getting stuffed there will be a lot of grumbling here on the message boards, mark my words.

Wrong on the first part. It can and will work against the B1G. Look at all the success Oregon had. I think getting Wisconsin and Iowa in a track meet is a great idea. Unfortunately, you are probably right about the second part, there will be grumbling.

It's worked at Penn State under Joe Moorhead. He never lines up in anything but shotgun, even at the goal line.

The team he took over was 0-12....then saw a +6 in the win column in one year which is unprecedented, then saw a likely +6 again, which has never happened. That is like Bo winning 11 games in 2008, and then winning the NC in 2009 with a 14-0 record, except probably more impressive. Talk about having to piece together a team from freshman, transfers, and kids with broken spirits. And now they are likely going to a bcs bowl game. His situation at NU will actually be more difficult, but I still expect to win 9 games every year because he emphasizes belief and physicality, above winning. When he went to the big house and got rolled he bragged that his team out hit michigan, that they were physical and he was proud of them. He knows how to get the best out of his players.

There are no slam dunks, period. Frost has as much risk as anyone, and probably a little more upside than most.

Yeah, finding warts on a guy that took an 0-12 team, two years ago, to a game-away from a conference championship and a Big-Six Bowl Game. I'd rather have a guy like Larry Coker that has a natty, or maybe even "Da Chiz", he has one too. Charlie Weis is a available, he took ND to a couple BCS bowl games.​

I think Frost is a slam dunk if he comes here. I don't think the chances of Frost coming here are a slam dunk.
