Used to like those, but then I discovered the Chicago-style Italian beef, wet.

After that, you can never go back to the French dip.

Are you in Omaha? Would love to find that there.

I can't disagree and even had the one with an Italian Sausage with the beef. Was awesome. Al's Italian Beef and Portillo's (both in Illinois).

Hey, the season has started so no need for these kinds of posts. We're 1-1. We should be busy complaining about it, blaming everyone, and fixing it for them.

My sister lives in New Orleans. They have a sandwich joint there called The Butcher. They chop up the pigs behind the counter. If you’re ever there, I suggest the Cuban.

Also, the dive bars down there have amazing shrimp po boys

No I haven’t lived in Nebraska for a long time. Back in the day, M&N Sandwich Shop in Lincoln had a really good Italian beef, and sometimes I had them add Pastrami. Place was a dump and the proprietor seemed determined to go back to prison - but he made a mean sandwich.

Norm died I believe. Grumpiest SoB to ever run a restaurant. But damn good food.

You probably ate at the original dump that burned down. Goodcents sandwich shop there now.

Norm once kicked me out because I asked for no au jus on the meat. Apparently it all came with it. He called me an ******* and told me to go somewhere else! Good times.

Great story. My best M&N tale is from the time I was eating there and the bread supplier came in to collect a past due bill. It was entertaining for a while but then I sort of hustled out of there because the situation seemed to be escalating. I always wondered if it was that guy’s last bread truck run.

Maybe my favorite sandwich growing up. Who's got the best one around here?

Not my usual order at restaurants, so no suggestion for the best place to get a French dip sandwich. However, I do have a homemade recipe that tastes pretty good. Put a roast in a crockpot with some soy sauce, water, and other seasonings. Good food and easy. I think I will make that for Saturday since NIU is a late afternoon game. Thanks for reminding me and figuring out my menu!!!

One of my favorite bars in Papillion just added one. Sinnott's. Very good and highly recommend.

Village Inn actually makes a decent French Dip, they use a tasty crusted roll.

Rosati's at 147th & Maple has a good Italian Beef sandwich.

Lazlo's was once voted best french dip in Lincoln a while back, still is excellent. It's shaved prime rib, really good.

They have a location in Omaha as well now.

There is a prime rib dip at the local country club here in AZ that is amazing. McAlisters Deli was my favorite when I lived in Dallas, though. One of the biggest things for me is the temperature of the Au Jus. If it isn't hot enough, I don't really care for French dip. It's just a roast beef sandwich then.

Jonny's in Illinois was/is the best! Portillo's is really good! And you can have them ship them out to you!

In Omaha, Chicago Dawg House and Rositas Near 150th and Maple)

Didn't realize that! Next time I'm in Omaha will try both. Will probably try the Portillo's shipping thing, for as many times I have been there, I can't believe I missed that.

Thanks!

Barrett’s in Omaha has a pretty good French Dip. Also have good Phillies, an awesome Pastrami sandwich and a bomb as Rueben.
