In recruiting players with the current rules, we have to look at the free throw percentages in high school and Junior College. Players will almost always shoot within 3-5 % of that in college. It is well known that 5-7 games each year are decided at the line. Five to seven games will always determine whether we make the NCAA or not.

Shaq's missed a front end of a one and one FT after getting fouled by GP 2 late in the game that was huge.

Not just blaming him but he hits those two who knows.

Defense in second half was weak. OSU shot lights out in the second half.

Refs seem to be bailing OSU out by calling fouls late in the game as they were running clock.

You couldn't touch GP 2 .

GO TU!!!!

You can shoot 95% from the free throw line, but if you can't get there it's pointless

We get there Jester, we just miss 1/3 of them. How many games this year would have W's instead of L's if we shot 90% from the line?

Also, getting to the line and missing the front end of a 1 and 1 is just the same as a turnover...

I'm not disagreeing with any of the statements made in this thread. Just stating that a good free throw shooter in high school doesn't necessarily get to the free throw line in college, unless he's can drive to the basket occasionally. While his FT% is a great thing to look at, its not going to translate to points without good guard play as well.

On the bright side, there's no way our opponents continue to shoot 77% the rest of the year. There's only 17 teams in the country that shoot that well from the line.

Curtis did the same thing a minute or two earlier.

I heard during the Mo State game broadcast that we get to the FT line more than just about any team in the country.

Doesn't do you anygood if you miss so many.

It might be a good idea for haith to run some driving plays to the rim for Birt or Ray when we get to the Bonus from now on... So when they get fouled we don't miss the front end and have a completely wasted possession.

Tulsa is 14 out 346 teams in FT attempts per game.

No trouble getting to the line.

GO TU!!!!

Easy to say we are not a good free throw shooting team but we are not a good shooting team overall. Wooodard really the only legitimate shooter we have and he even a little streaky. It translates to the free throw line. Watch the shooting during warmups tonight. I watch them shoot even in warmup and I am not very impressed with the release and the rotation of the shot or the ball. For me that shows inconsistent shooting. Shows itself at the line and from the field. Shows in our poor free throw stats last year and this year.

Concerning free throw shooting NAU went 18 - 20 the line hitting 90% in tonight's game.
We do bring out the best in the other team when it comes to free throws!

Up to 77.9%. No team in the country has had their opponents shoot better from the line this year.

I think the coaches have to lay off the guys on the ft. It seems that all the pressure drills are not helping and may even causing them to overthink at the line. We are not going to improve that skill much so at least we can get them to relax a bit and have a natural motion.

That really makes our free throw shooting suck even worse. How the hell can every team do this to us? They laugh at our shooting from the line so hard, that it puts them in a relaxed mode when they go to the line?
