I want our team to have big crowds because the program deserves it. I live out of town and there’s some games I just can’t make. Friday is one of them. So I’m offering my 3 tickets for free to a good Bulldog that wants to go Friday night. They are front row of section 101, right down in the action behind the goal. I will only transfer them through Hailstate dog tag. Message me or email me at [email protected]. I did this some last year and will do so again. Help me keep the Hump packed.

Are these some of the ones I saw on stub hub, seat geek, vivid seats, etc a few days back? If so, think they would be great seats but I wasn’t ready to pay ~$25 or whatever when there would be cheap or free for the less attended games. Might be buying them for some conference games down the road.

No. These are my season tickets that I use a good number of games. I’m not making the game Friday and I simply wanted someone to use so I offered for free here as a way to help out both the crowd and someone here that wanted to go. Not sure why that’s hard to grasp.

Not sure why you needed to make a smart remark and assume I was being snide. I was going to bookmark your name in case I wanted tickets later in the year.

Apologies.....I read that in a different way as that I had tried to sell them and couldn’t so had offered them here. My bad. Typically the seats are used for conference games and some non conference games but when not I’ll do my best to make them available or put someone in them. I’d really like the Hump to get back to the days of old.

No harm, no foul Nug. I was a student at State 01-04 so I remember how the Hump used to be and commend you for doing your part to help.

They just posted $1 tickets for both the women’s and men’s game tonight. If the Golden Triangle folks aren’t willing to pay a whopping $1.00, not sure how else to get them in the Hump.

There's one way - don't show it on TV.
Do people not care about the atmosphere any more? I mean I get it, I know the argument that you can sit on your couch and all that. But that's never deterred me from coming to a game. It's either you do or you don't.

I think other things are causing the lack of attendance.

So now the excuse is HS football season? lol

Look it is what it is, the fans who are within a 100 mile radius don't prioritize MBB anymore. There are plenty of reasons why that have been discussed. It is sad.

ETA: MSU currently owns the SEC's longest non-conference winning streak at 23 straight.

Or schedule a double-header.

Women tip on a Saturday at 2 PM. Men tip the same evening at 7 PM.

You drive over (early for lunch if you want to), watch the Women smack someone around, get some food, show back up to help the guys with a much closer game.

Not when the opponent sucks and it's on TV. We had attendance problems in non-conference when Stansbury was here.

Just noting that there are a lot of factors as to why tonights game doesnt have a ton of demand. Didnt say it was the only reason. I like
going to games but if i lived in stark i probably wouldnt go to this. Much like we are seeing in football, opponent matters

Ultimately, it's up to the fans to show up and create the atmosphere for the players. It's on us. We've been in a reactionary wait-and-see mode with this program for far too long.

Howland has lifted this program back from the dead to a respectable, tournament-level team. Which is all we can ask for. Obviously, 8K + every night is probably too much to ask. But is 5k+? i don't think so

Here's a thought: when we sit at home and get frustrated with a sloppy turnover, a bad pass, or a box-out fail, what if the Hump was filled close to capacity? would it create a more enjoyable product to watch? absolutely. It's just human nature for the players to respond and play a more inspired brand of basketball when they're playing in front of a good crowd. After all, they are 18-21 year olds out there, not professionals.

I'm beating a dead horse, and it will cause some down votes and negative responses i'm sure. But something has to change for the sake of this program.

I suppose now is not the time to tell you that I'm a season ticket holder, I live four miles from campus, and I have no desire to go watch them play on a Friday night against Directional State Community College.

That's fine. I just don't know what changed within our fanbase in regards to indifference towards MBB. The excuse of 'we aren't good' can't be used anymore. We are a solid team with some potential NBA talent

Gotcha. I think it's a couple things. The Ray Years (and the carry over into Howland's first year), which is well documented. And pair that with the fact that at the exact same time Mullen was building a football program our fanbase had never experienced before - and you get a boat load of more apathy to basketball. I've learned that baseball is baseball...the same blue hairs that are all in on baseball - have been and always will be all in regardless.

The Rick Ray era definitely set our program back... but he's been gone for almost 5 years

Does Howland/our athletic dept do a poor job of generating excitement? Is it our students?

I guess it leads into the question.. what will need to happen in order for it change? a final four run? That seems unfair for this program that's been doing everything they can to become respectable the last few years.

There were less people at the Kansas State game than there were at the USM game. I don't think adding tougher opponents is an answer to this either, especially in football. Basketball, maybe it can help, because you don't have too much to lose, with RPI or whatever.

Not being a prick here, but unless you have something more interesting going on, why not go? I can think of far worse ways to spend a Friday night. It's a perk of living in Starkville. Take advantage.

Seems like most of the bad attitudes have been eradicated too.

Make some noise in the conference championship race, and make some noise in the Big Dance. May not be fair, but that's what it will take.

We kind of sputtered into the tourney last year.

A significantly higher number of people will show up to see us play baylor or clemson or whoever than they will sam houston state.

Usm is an instate school, the home opener and at 2:30. Kstate was the second of 3 straight weeks and it was at 11 am. So there are other factors but opponent is important.

the real analogy here is what would attendance be for kstate at night instead of abilene Christian at night.

I do have something more interesting going on.

I don't get the hysteria two games into the season. People act like it was a packed house during the Stansbury years for EVERY game of the season.

Since I’m going, any ideas on parking if one doesn’t have a pass? I guess it’s early so maybe not that many lessons learned yet this year .... I used to park on collegeview St but the new apartments took a chunk of those spaces and they had the whole street blocked off during football plus new sidewalks.

It’s not the people living in Starkville that are the problem. They go, but that’s still only maybe 2,500 or so of the core fanbase. The rest of the crowd has to come from 1-2 hours away, most on the higher end of that spectrum.

I can fix that for you.

Not optional changes:
1) the students HAVE to be moved to the lower side across from the benches from goal to goal. To make this happen, the two locker rooms cannot be on the same end, but need to be on the benches side, so that seating(standing) about 8 to 10 rows deep can be placed through the curves to make a complete half bowl. Tuesday night, the students turned out pretty good but they were only in one end, ironically the Home Bench end(dumb), so had no affect on the opposing team anyway.
Put the students on a point system to where they can get discounted season tickets for all sports their first 5 years after graduation.

2) move the announcers mid level on the bench side so the TV shows the students the whole game.

3) big donors season ticket holders get the lower sections behind the benches

4) tier the season ticket holders the rest of the way, giving them a point system for purchasing and bonus points for attendance on all tiers. Doing this will let them use the bonus points to push out lower level ticket holders who buy but do not attend nor share their tickets with seat users.

The first couple of years, may not be money making years for the MBB program until the non-attendees are either moved up or moved out. But, the goal will be to turn the students into future season ticket holders to replace the hand-wringers, and seat wasters.

It should be packed all the time. Some teams have zero problem packing in for even a ****** directional school. Our fans NEVER will. I've been there well before that coach you mentioned and never missed a home game in 5 years. It's a shame, but it is what it is. We need to have Kentucky come for a "full" house.

Giving the students all the best seats? I wanted season tix after being a student because I could see those were equal.
