… this is all on him….
I hate to admit it, but I think I agree. This is a catastrophic meltdown coming off of last year. A complete failure on the recruiting trail. And I will beat the dead horse: if you are starting your walk-on son the team better be playing lights out. He deserves even more criticism for even having to consider that option. How can one of the best shooters of his generation not be able to recruit….guys who can shoot!!!!!!’

The usual cast of Fred Groupies will be here shortly to explain how the program is just cursed and we’re so lucky to have him.

When Miles was on the way out, I brought up the name of Grant McCasland, who was at North Texas at the time. Sure he now has Tech in the Top 10, but his grandpa never coached in Lincoln!

No, instead of spending $10 million to buy him out, spend $10 million in NIL to bring in some elite talent. No coach is going to win here unless we outspend everyone else on players.

12-2 start.

Up by 15 @ Io_a. Enter Uhliss the game fixer. Lose by 10 to the cockeyes.

5-12 finish.

Lose to Io_aaaaaaaaah to get knocked out of Conference tourney.

Neat.

Nebraska basketball will never get elite players. We just need a better supporting cast around the good players we had . Fred didn’t do that this year after a the NCAA team last year. Now with h Williams and Gary gone we literally have to start over. So if you have to start over on the roster you just as well let a new guy do it.

Everyone involved with these teams are ********. All they do is **** all over everything. Save the NIL money for the girls and just cancel the mens sports.

Pretty much my thought. Who do you keep for next year?

Go get Ben McCollum today...sadly he wouldn't accept more than likely, but he's the best coach at a smaller school. Won time after time at D2 and already at Drake year 1. Iowa kid whose teams play smart and winning basketball.

stockholm syndrome is alive and well on this board. Don’t worry, the off-season will be here soon and all will be forgotten and we will be world champs again.

In a month, Freddie will be so close to a final 4 team. Anyone that doubts him will be criticized to no end and called a troll or a trader

I think Fred is going to be going bye bye in the next 48 hours. I'm probably wrong but I hope they let him go.

Very disappointing end to the regular season. We were a lock in the tourney and only needed to not meltdown our last 5 games but of course that’s exactly what we do. I’m tired of being “close” in basketball and football. I like
Hoiberg and think he represents our team well but if he can’t get better talent here we need somebody else and I hate to say that. No reason we should be the top half of the big 10 with our resources. We’ve given him ample time now I believe.

Fred was out-coached in this game and, with the exception of Gary, the players looked lethargic and sloppy. We've seen similar performances way too often this season.

Still, Fred isn't going anywhere, with a contract through 2028-2029 his buyout is too high and the PBA is still full every game.

Ben McCollum. Locked it down now before the tourney. Winners win. Tired of hiring losers and blaming their failures on their circumstances

Still have to have someone that does a good job of coaching them are you sure Fred can?

One of the more epic disappointments in NU Hoops history - and that’s for a program that is the epitome of disappointment and underachievement.

After the amazing comeback against NW, NU was all but a lock to make the NCAA Tournament. Almost a mathematical impossibility to miss it on that Sunday 2 weeks ago - but here we are.

Wow….just….wow.

But hey - we made the JV tournament in Vegas.

I think it is time for Fred to go as well. His style of defense and offense just doesn’t fit the college game. I never did understand why we leave 3 point shooters open but double the post. Let the post guys try to score enough to try and win the game while guarding the 3 line. When you look at the overall talent on this team you two maybe three guys that can play the rest are not Big 10 players. This team for the last month seemed like they lacked energy and just didn’t really want to play, it seemed as if the team sort of check out over the last month,

I am a big fan of Ben McCollum, as you watch his style of play and how he runs the team I think he would be a solid hire.

It would cost a lot more than $10 million to get rid of him. Last March, his contract was extended through the 2028-2029 season, which means that he has four more seasons left on his contract. His salary for the 2024-2025 season was increased to $4.25 million, and his salary increases by $100,000 each year thereafter. That means his salary for the next four seasons is as follows: $4.35 million for the 2025-2026 season, $4.45 million for the 2026-2027 season, $4.55 million for the 2027-2028 season and $4.65 million for the 2028-2029 season. Plus, he gets a $500,000 bonus if he remains at Nebraska through March 31, 2027.

According to the article below, his contract does not include a reduced buyout if he is fired. Instead, he would be entitled to his remaining salary plus the unearned stay bonus. So, it's essentially a guaranteed contract. As I calculate it, if he were to be fired now, Nebraska would owe him $18.5 million, less any amount he gets from a new job before the end of the 2028-2029 season.

Is it true this year-old AD extended Fred’s contract? If so, it might be somewhat defensible if Fred was his hire and his own rear end might be tied to Fred’s. But otherwise, it is idiotic.

Another example of Husker athletics bidding against itself. Which P4 schools would be knocking down FH’s door for an open position???

I’m a Fred supporter but today’s performance was inexcusable, Iowa had more energy we were flat borderline pouting, I venture to say Fred gets one more year but he has to do better in the portal than last offseason

Watching Fred’s news conference replay. Is there anyone in the local media with the guts to ask tough questions or is the fear of being blackballed by the only show in town too great?

What would I ask? Whether he thinks he has accomplished enough to continue as coach, at a minimum.

Agree with others, unless the Peed family decided to write a huge check, the admin is just not going to eat Fred's enormous buyout. We're stuck. Maybe after Sam graduates, Fred will decide to "walk away" like Erstad. I guess on the good side, since he doesn't recruit high school players, we shouldn't have to worry about keeping him on a 4/5-year contract cycle.

I wish everyone would just stop supporting this **** in Lincoln. The players, coaches and administrators don't give a ****, why in the hell should we.

Stop spending your money on less than mediocrity. All they do is take your money and serve you ****.
