Frank Robinson dead at 83

I remember his 1966 trade from Cincinnati to Baltimore for pitcher Milt Pappas. The Reds' GM claimed that Robinson was "an old age 30". Robinson won the AL MVP his first year in Baltimore and led the O's to a 4 game sweep of the Dodgers in the World Series.
He later became the first black manager in MLB with Cleveland.
Sad day for baseball.

As only a casual observer of baseball, I know very few of the legendary names of baseball. Frank Robinson is one. That alone puts him into probably a Top 10 of a who's who in baseball.

In my college days (1974-ish), I was on a flight home to Hawaii over the summer. I was on an aisle seat and I saw a gentleman sitting a couple of rows in front of me across the aisle that looked like Frank Robinson. I asked the flight attendant if it was indeed him and, if so, could I get his autograph? It was and she did. I still have that autograph and I don't have very many in my collection.

As I look back, it surprises me that he was flying coach on a flight of that length but I was fortunate that he did. I guess he had a professional reputation as a tough customer but he was certainly nice to me.

He was a great baseball player & manager and he was a true class act

I always liked Frank. I don't remember him playing, but I do remember him as a manager. Several years ago I read his book and it was great. RIP Frank.
