Small sample size but if you rewatch he played pretty solid defense. If he has an off night or cant find his range he will still hopefully contribute on the other end.

I’ll say what I said before the game again. The fact that Francis is decent on D is a big deal for this team.

The stat sheet says he took 10 shots and made 6 of them. He also drew some fouls at the rim and he’s an excellent foul shooter. He scored 20 points. Hard to complain based on that.

Yes, Rider stink and yes, Francis is undersized but after one game he sure seems like a smart pick up for our situation. It’s not just the scoring, Lino Mark didn’t seem quite ready to handle D1 pressure as a PG. There’s a reason J Mike and Francis played 30 minutes a piece and nobody else (including Grant) played more than 20.

I thought Tariq played very well defensively, he had no turnovers and he led the team in scoring.

After all the bitchin' and moaning I read in this forum when he was added to the roster about how awful he is, I expected the worst. Instead, for one night at least, he was clearly one the best players on the floor.

This 100%. And I sure did my share of complaining about him.

And again, while it’s only one game, in my view I saw enough to conclude that as of right now, he’s a materially better ball handler than Lino Mark. Mark is a frosh and will improve over time, but the point is, J Mike can’t play 40 mpg. Grant is not a ball handler. So we clearly did need to bring in a veteran with handling skills and veteran PGs cost a lot. For this reason, regardless of anything related to scoring / shooting this pick up is trending up.

Lino mark last night reminded me of when Caleb McConnell first started. Caleb looked completely lost the first few games but then made amazing progress after only a few games. Hopefully mark is similar.
