His guys dug down hard and pulled the game out. Probably a big relief for Fran. The odds were against him and his team.

I was at the game. This morning, I watched the end of the game and the way Fran and the Iowa team was reacting with such pure joy. In a weird way, it made me feel better. Respect to Sandfort and crew for being experienced, talented guys for which this is the biggest part of their journey and not a pit stop on the way to something bigger.

McCaffrey is a outstanding coach because his teams consistently score 80 points without highly rated recruits. In this game Iowa was making uncontested layups while Rutgers struggled to get open shots.Iowa always has at least 3 players on the court that can make 3 pointers. In contrast Rutgers shot bricks in the second half from the 3 point line.Bottom line Iowa continues to defeat Rutgers regardless where the game is played.

Head and shoulders a far superior coach than Pikell. Wish we had Fran
we should have had Fran if TIm Pernetti would have just fired Fred Hill in the first place at the end of the season not in May...he would have came here

Fran has a Big 10 tournament title...can you ever imagine Pike having a team that can even dare to compete for a Big 10 tourney title.... 7 ncaa tourneys at Iowa...5 more at smaller schools and he won 2 games at Siena.....look at Pikes Stoney Brook record....not that impressive when you think about it in 11 years...1 ncaa bid and zero wins and it look all 11 years to get there and he **** the bed 3 times winning the regular season american east and laying turds in the conference tournaments

I’m a fan of Fran. He’s a good coach and despite being rough around the edges I do believe he’s a very decent guy.

the biggest issue was the criminal extension and money give out by Hobbs

apparently Fran does not have much time left on his contract

Fran McCaffery, the head men's basketball coach at the University of Iowa, signed a four-year contract extension in March 2021. The extension runs through the 2027-2028 season.

Contract details
  • McCaffery's base salary for the next two seasons is $2.3 million.

  • His salary will increase each year for the last five years of the contract.

  • He is also eligible for longevity bonuses.

  • If the season is significantly shortened due to a pandemic, his base salary will be reduced by 10%.

  • He will receive bonuses for conference and national achievements.

  • His salary percentage increase is based on the team's highest finish at the conference or national level.
Buyout

  • If Iowa were to terminate McCaffery's contract, his buyout would be around $4.2 million.
  • Iowa could pay the buyout over three years, which would cost the university about $1.4 million per year.

If I remember , we certainly could have had him . He was winning at Siena and was certainly available.
The great pernetti thought Fred hill jr was better …for real

agree and i know he is going to face heat with a 2nd straight ncaa tourney miss this year
I know a lot of Iowans and hes never been terribly popular out there. The northeast style doesn’t go over well with many so my guess is you are 100% correct.

not exactly...but remember when 800k was too much to buy out and fire....TP was AD he needed to search out someone to pay for that

I believe SHU interviewed Fran and passed and got Willard instead
