Good luck to Gil. He was lied to by Danny Hurley. Danny claimed he would play SF and get many shots from 3 point land. Instead his stats after sitting out a year at RI were almost identical to what he had at RU in a tougher league and at a younger age. He played strictly at PF and hardly ever shot a 3 pointer. I think he played better at RU as a frosh as in his second year he missed way too many shots right near the basket. He was a hard worker and a fan favorite. I hope he can make the Wizards regular roster.

He is far far from NBA player, but will get good exposure overseas. If he qualifies as non import player, he will be even more valuable.

He was a nice college player. Always one of my favorites and gave his all during his time at RU. Was screwed over and had every right to transfer. I hope he's able to get into the league somehow, but will be a solid overseas player when it's all finished.

Good for him--screwed over by FHJ, who professed to the press not to know where he had been injured, resulting in a promising effort player transferring. He wasn't one of Fred's pets, so who cares? He won't play in the NBA, but good bigger guys are at a premium overseas.

Think you're confusing him with Echenique who had the right or left eye problem. Fred recruited him but was fired before Biruta arrived on campus.

Think you are right about it being Echenique--FHJ was asked which eye, and he said he didn't know, prompting Echenique to leave.. Have to look at Biruta's time line.

Back from Google. Remembered Fred Hill Jr was supposed to coach in 2010-11 because he was owed money thanks to Mulcahy, as Pernetti reluctantly agreed we couldn't pay two coaches. But he made the infamous profanity-laced tirade at a baseball game coached by his Dad in the spring of 2010, and was warned to stay away from RU baseball games. In a clueless and graceless move, he was slouched in car wearing a disguise at the next game. Wave bye bye, Freddie--an idiotic move for a man around 50 to pull. Biruta tried to renege on his commitment; Rosario did transfer out. Biruta played two seasons for Mike Rice before moving to RI. My bad getting the two (Echenique and Biruta) confused. GL to Gil.
