Does anyone have a feel about remaining MSU targets for the 2020 class? Prospects?

I am not someone who follows the recruiting world like some of the others on the board. But I am assuming we are making a strong push for Xavier Hill. I really do not know who else is out there.

Rosebowl keeps saying the hay is in the barn except for Hill. Guess I won't complain about a Top 20 class.

I keep hearing Patterson won't be a part of the class, so after McCrae got dropped, we'll only have 7 JUCOs, which is right in line with what we should have (5-7 per year).

I am a little concerned that Co-Lin isn't any good and we have 4 commitments from there.

The teams behind us will move up as they fill out their numbers. We won't end up in the Top 20. Probably in the 27-33 range

ETA: Forbes (on of our 4-star commits) has OM flip written all over him.

Exactly ... sitting around 20 right now with nobody expected to come on board probably means we drop 5 or more spots once things shake out.

I agree on Forbes. But if we beat them like we should, they'll likely be dealing with a coaching change.

I wouldn't view that as a good thing.
Yeah but it's inevitable. They aren't going to suck forever. And hey, they may make an even worse hire than Luke. At worse, he's Houston Nutt, the guy always has his guys ready to play ball, and while he can't scheme like the Nuttsack, he always had Longo and now Rich Rod to make them at least competent in that department.

Rich Rod doesn’t fit the Plantation Social Status as a Southern Gentleman. He is way too much a firebrand. He will be gone after this year.

Five to seven JUCOs per year is too much. From 2010 to 2019 we averaged just over 3 per year. That's pretty skewed though because of 2017 where we signed 9.

Take it out, and it the average falls to 2.5 per year.

Rodney Groce

Edgerrin Cooper
Darrell Bailey
Josiah Hayes
Robert Scott
Jimmy Holliday
Antwon Fegans
Kundarrius Taylor
Jonathan Horton

These are all guys we're on in some form or fashion. We have 20 commits we'll likely sign 3-4 more.

Disagree. There are two things I criticize Mullen for, one of them is not hiring an offensive coordinator so he could release a little of that, and two, certain aspects of recruiting. I don't think he hit the JUCOs as hard and as consistently as he should have. Probably should have hit them more in the beginning and middle of his tenure, and less at the end. He also didn't work the transfer market like I thought he should have.

If you just look at the sheer talent we've gotten over the past 20 years from JUCO. You can't rely on them, you have to supplement. If you want to lean more towards 5 per year, sure. But 7 isn't too many. 9 is, and I was concerned about that until we dropped those guys recently.

The reality is, at this point, we aren't signing the elite guys, so we have to add that talent. We have no choice in my mind. These guys are in our backyard, and in a state with the schools and what they produce and everything, it's necessity.

This is an area where he has to excel. If we are going to take another step forward, this is the area. I like that we already have 2 Wrs for next year with another prediction of 2 more. 3 of those are 4 star guys.

But he seems to be geared for immediate help this year

The biggest thing I criticize Mullen for is having a different DC every year.

Who knows how much more success we could have had under Mullen if he had been able to hire and hang on to a legit DC.

Marginal. Maybe a game in 2009, another couple in 2011 and 2012, and a couple or 3 in 2016. In all our 'up' years we had a good DC (that's probably a big reason). But I still don't think we get over the hump. Only a Cam Newton, and a few less recruiting misses here and there, would have done that.

But there's something to be said for bringing up those lower end seasons, for sure.
