4 part deal it's pretty good so far. Hope they show or talk about all the program warts and run ins with the law. Huntley Johnson kept many a Gator out of the papers. Wonder if his name will be mentioned

OK nevermind. This is an Urban Meyer puff piece. Some of the football stuff is fun to watch but the series is called Untold and this certainly fits that title. So much is untold

What were the sensitive topics they didn’t cover with Manziel? Alcoholism, laziness, drugs, infidelity, physical altercation with gf, breaking ncaa rules with money under the table, mental illness. What topics did they miss?

Two convicted murderers on that team, and they don't even mention it. Weird.

If I’m a Florida fan in as nervous as when I thought they were going to do a 30 For 30 on the 95 Nebraska team…

pretty boring so far, didn't realize UM had only been a head coach for only 4 years when he took the FU job.

Yeah haven't watched the Florida one yet, but the manziel one didn't make him look good at all. If it was meant as a manziel puff piece it spectacularly failed

Similar to frost. Both led a mid major to an undefeated season and became the hot coach that everyone wanted. Frost unfortunately proved to be a fluke

I’m one of those that believe if we’d have waited to fire Frank one more year, UM is the next coach @ Nebraska.

He was on record of saying he wouldn’t consider coming to Nebraska since it fired a 10-3 coach. I have no doubt if Nebraska lets Frank coach in 2004 we’d have been able to fire him with grace and guys like UM would have loved to come Nebraska. But the minute Bill Cowher unofficially committed to be coach at Nebraska, the admin staff committed to firing Frank. The minute Cowher backed out, the staff held steady on firing Frank. Dumb move. Changed everything

Love cowher but he wasn’t coming to Lincoln to coach. Need to see some phone records and flight plans before taking that seriously.

Me thinks you have him confused with Wanny.
Yep wannstedt was the one who almost took the job, but the dolphins gave him one more year. bill cowher was never coming to Nebraska or anywhere else. Steeler coaches have full support of ownership and have about as much job security as exists in professional sports.

Cowher was never coming to Lincoln. You are thinking of wannstedt. Solich with the 2004 team probably goes about 8-3, but losing all the big games and it is the same situation. Don't really think that affected Urban's thinking. He saw Florida as a place he could win easier.

It wasn't Wannstedt, according to Harvey Perlman.

"Perlman also revealed that when Pederson made the move, he already had lined up an NFL head coach for the job, one who 'led us to believe that he was available and willing to do it.'
Perlman would not name the coach, but says 'everyone would have said ‘Wow.' '
He last week said it was not Dave Wannstedt, the Miami Dolphins coach who was one rumored target at the time, but Perlman declined to entertain other names. Other coaches on NFL sidelines at that time included Jon Gruden, Marty Schottenheimer, Butch Davis, Tony Dungy, Steve Spurrier, Herm Edwards and Bill Cowher.
In the end, the coach got cold feet, contract negotiations dragged on, and the coach decided to stay with his team.
'The error in judgment Steve made was he was so confident he'd get him, he didn't have Plan B,' Perlman said."

thank you. It was Cowher. People don’t see it because they are thinking of who Cower turned out to be but look who he was at that point of time. He had had some success but looked to be fizzling. steeler fans were really getting impatient with him and he was tired of it.

On Nov 15 2003 we get boat raced at home against KSU. Same weekend the Steelers get hammered by a bad 49er team. Pittsburgh sits @ 3-7 record. Fans want Cowher out.

Pederson and Cowher had ties both working in Pittsburgh (both working out of Acrisure Stadium). Anyways, they meet after that weekend and make a deal after that weekend for Cowher to come to Nebraska. He wants to run option football. Wants out of the NFL. Loves what we stand for and we are still a premium brand. Pederson has to fire Frank for a guy like Bill, right?

Fast forward, we have a full week off. Pittsburgh wins and looks much better there after. Cowher gets cold feet and decides not to come. Steve is left in the dark but sticks with his choice to fire Frank cause he thinks we can get anyone.

You don’t think to fire a guy like Frank for Wanny. He was i believe an attempt after Cowher fell through but not the cause for it.

And if you don’t know that story, your probably still wondering why Frank was canned

Didn’t know this. Maybe would’ve been a success story for peedy if he brings in a coach to run the option and has more success than frank. Cowher probably keeps pelini on as DC for future and we don’t suffer that defensive embarrassment of 07. Oh what could’ve been. Another stone unturned, how would husker nation reacted to cowher as the new coach? Probably would’ve been more accepted than cally

I guess anything is possible...but if I had to bet an amount of money I would never recover from...i'm betting Cowher to Nebraska false. To each their own though....and if it is true then so be it.

it was a perfect storm. Peedy thought we were falling behind. Cowher was having an awful year and as so many people do when they aren’t happy at work, they look for something new and it seems like the right thing for a second. But like so many people do, Bill realized he was just caught up in the moment and realized it was just a bad time and not a bad situation. Peedy’s problem was he was already sold on booting frank

Had the Steelers not beaten the Browns during our off week, things are probably completely different for both organizations. Pittsburgh probably doesn’t get Big Ben in the next years draft.

The meaningless win vs the Browns that weekend changed both the NFL and college football for decades.

I’m not saying you’re wrong at this point but why did Pederson hire Wannstant when he was the AD at Pitt?

I guess if were going to take Pearlman word for it so be it but I’m not sure Cowher was the top choice..

The flaw in this scenario (waiting until after 2004 season) is that Solich probably wins at least 8 games in 2004. If you're not supposed to fire a coach after winning 9 games (it wasn't 10), do you fire him for only winning 8?

Cowher was never getting fired from the Steelers. No way he was going to leave Pittsburgh for a college job. Yes the Steelers had a down year, but he was 23-8-1 the two previous years and had a lot of goodwill there. Sorry most people aren't going to believe he almost came until we see far more evidence. Cowher coming would be even more crazy than the grumors that floated around for college fanbases for a while. At least gruden was out of coaching during that time

Dude I don’t need you to believe me. Trust me. It’s been known it was Cowher. You’re points for why he didn’t come here are valid and it’s why he didn’t leave!!! Peedy was stupid for believing he would.

But he toyed with the idea and even agreed to it in the heat of a moment. But I’ve been there too before. Been tired of my job that’s been successful and exciting in the past but things just aren’t going right so you toy with the idea of a change but when it comes time to really do it, you back out.

I understand Tebow was a great football player. But I cannot stand listening to him talk. His voice is so annoying. It’s like being locked in a room with a total dork trying to inspire you for an hour

Respect the guy but his voice bothers me, so gayish
