Guys, I am going to the South Dakota game in Cameron on 12/2. My wife and I are flying in Friday and flying out Sunday. I am a planner, hence why I'm asking 3 months ahead of time. What do I need to see and do for my first time being on campus and at CIS?

I'm losing sleep already because I'm so excited.

I remember my first and only game so well!!! I was just as excited!! First thing I did was go to the store on campus and buy about every shirt they had in my size, and then I took a cup and scooped up a big cup of Duke dirt to bring home....still haven't decided what to do with it!!

Best part was when I pulled in the parking lot, Mickey Krzyzewski was pulling in and I got a photo and autograph!

I don't remember the name of the restaurant we ate at. It was a Sports bar somewhere

I also got to go back after the game and meet several players and get some autographs. I got a photo with myself and Mason Plumlee.....never realized I was so small until I seen that picture!!

Another cool thing that happens was right after we sat down, Rob Lowe walked in and sat about 4 or 5 seats down from us.
A day I will never forget. The game was against Virginia Tech and we won it in O.T.

The first thing that struck me when we got inside for the game was I knew Cameron was small compared to the bigger corporate names arena's, but I was still shocked to see just how small. And feeling that place vibrate when the crowd started jumping up and down always spine tingling!!

Ok let me tell you about my 1st visit to Cameron. A buddy of mine somehow got tickets and we were seated right below The Crow's Nest and it just happened that the opponent was unc. My only Duke/unc basketball game I have ever seen in person. Early 70's and Duke was not very good but it was Duke/unc and the place was packed and hot with no a/c. Bobby Jones and company were there and of course unc won. I'm around 20 years old at the time and since then have mellowed out a lot but my friend and I were in rare form that night but sober. I never have been a drinker so alcohol didn't play into our behavior that night. Since Duke was getting beat my buddy and I turned our attention to The Crow's Nest and unc's favorite radio announcer woody durham. We didn't use profanity of course because there were women and children around some being seated right in front of us. We stayed on woody for the entire 1st half constantly insulting him. At halftime we see him coming down the ladder, walk past our aisle and walk straight to a woman a little boy in front of us and hug and kiss each one. It didn't take long for 2 idiots to figure out they were woody's wife and son. She never turned around to object to what we had said. Of course we did feel like fools. Regret very much not apologizing at least and learned a very valuable lesson that night. OFC

First game was in '63 or '64. We used to occasionally go down after work, Get tickets at window. We drove down to see them play state, and they had just sold out. Was in the Army from '66-69, so didi't see any games. Went to work for one of the NC newspapers when I got out in '69. Saw lots of games at all places in the 44 years that I worked there. None ever compared to Cameron. I guess Greensboro for the ACC tourney was the next closest.

Get there SUPER EARLY. Hit the Bryan Center first thing, buy all your Duke Goods,(Make sure you go downstairs to, lots of deals.) then go back to the car and dump it all off so you don't have to walk around carrying all that gear. Grab a meal at the Skillet, food rocks. Last time we were in there Scheyer had Cam Reddish, Zion Williamson, Tre Jones and one other recruit in there eating right beside us. Check out the chapel, then head over to Cameron, hit the museum and hall of fame. It's absolutely amazing. No telling WHO you may run into in there at any time. Save time to just walk around , see Wallace Wade which looks amazing now as well. Kville heats up closer and closer to game time, check out the crazies lining up. Then get happy overload when you roll through the doors and catch your first real glimpse of God's heavenly arena of awesome. Cameron Indoor Stadium. I've been inside a ton of sports venues. This is the King my friend. I hope you have an awesome time.

Hope you have an awesome time my friend. If you're a serious Duke fan, this is going to be better than Disney World for you.

I am already losing sleep because I am so excited. My wife and I were talking the other night and she asked me what I would do if we ran into Coach K and I said I'd honestly be so star struck that I wouldn't be able to say a word (and that never happens). I love Fantasy Football and this time of year but I need December to hurry up and get here.

Show I remember that.. when Scheyer had those recruits at the Skillet. That was a good CTC. Look forward to seeing you again here soon for CTC buddy!

Like everybody said, get there early, shop (check The Duck Shop off campus as well for unique Duke gear) , Duke Chapel, check out a restaurant off campus like Satisfactions for Duke memorabilia. If your tickets are in Section 17, get in line up to hour or more early if you want a better chance at front row view. The middle of section 17 is usually marked off for Crazies but you can still get good view near baseline. Have fun!

On the other hand Sky, my all-time favorite UNC player by a landslide is Bobby Jones. He broke our hearts w/heroics twice in '74, but was a class act!' Also overcame epilepsy! Just a wonderful person as well-

When do you get in on Friday? The reason I ask, is because Cameron is typically left unlocked during the day. You might be able to get some great pictures on the court, and if you're lucky, even shoot some hoops. That probably won't be available to you on Saturday, the day of the game.

Places to eat....Satisfactions and Skillet have already been listed. Great options. Others include Tobacco Road Sports Cafe, Bull City (great burgers) and Elmo's Diner....that's just scratching the surface. The food at Washington Duke is very good, as well.

Make sure to take some time and enjoy the entire campus. It's really cool. People have mentioned the book store....bring your credit card and load up. Lots of cool gift ideas in their for the young(er) Duke fans in your life too. We always load up for my nieces with small trinkets and such.

Have a great time! When I went two years ago it had been eight years since I had been there. Things had changed so much that in some ways it felt like my first time. You'll have a blast.
