It’s not realistic as we don’t have a president, which explains why we don’t have an AD plus Pike is still owed a boatload of money on his contract. But, in a vacuum and a perfect world, and based upon the arc that this program is on (downward and disappointing, not a good combo), yes he would be fired. It’s not gonna happen but he is earning the firing this year.

if we miss the tournament again next season hopefully the new AD will be willing to eat the rest of Pike’s deal at that point, but we’re almost certainly stuck with him for at least next season

It will take another disaster to get canned

He isn't going anywhere. What I would hope and wish for is the fans attending the games and in a position to convey a message is one of we've had enough. Do better now!

I feel sad about this and agree. We don't have a president and AD. But we will, and I hope whoever is the AD they're versed in BB and get rid of Pike. I was a huge Pikiell supporter. But after watching this team over the last two seasons, the man is done here. We need a top-flight coach (and yes, they're out there, folks, because we can pay for it now) who runs a real offense and has as one of his assistants, someone with a great defensive mind that thinks it's okay to employ man-to-man, zone when applicable, and a solid press throughout the game.

I don't know why, but I had a really bad premonition at the start of this season with all the hype surrounding Dylan and Ace. I was hopeful, but deep down I kind of thought the kids he brought in through the transfer portal were not suited for B1G play. Sadly, it's turned out that way. Now, I can't wait for this season to end.

If anyone sincerely believes Pike could get fired before *maybe* the end of the 2026-27 season they're going to be sincerely disappointed. And that's honestly the most sobering thing. Indiana is having a tremendously disappointing season, but they get to go through search szn and find a coach and build some enthusiasm.

You feel like Grant and Sommerville could become good college basketball players, but they’re not now, and probably won't be next year. Derkack, JMike and JWill stink. The incoming recruiting class stinks outside of Nwuli. And Pike has inspired no confidence that he navigate the transfer portal.

Rutgers is consigned to failure for the next two years and nothing can be done about it

You don't like Lino Mark? I think he'll be good and he fits Pike's program

Stop with the ifs. Get him to step down like Indiana did with Woodson. If he doesn't go quietly into the night then find the money and fire his a%%.

Did it work last year ? What about 2 years ago? What about 3 years ago when they lost in the play-in? Old Pike was just as bad as he is now even the good teams he had under performed
I can't love this post enough.

I hear you. But when he has a roster of guys that fits his image, it works. Nwuli and Mark - are going back to the old Pike
Even with those guys our two best finishes in the Big 10 were tied for fifth with two other teams, and seventh, and if Geo never developed a step back jumper we may never have finished in the top half.

2 and 3 years ago weren't bad seasons. We've just raised our expectations. Last year and this year are bad rosters. We loss Cam, Paul, and Nodongo. This yr the whole team was made from scratch. Pike just hasn't figured out how to maneuver through this new era yet

He's not getting fired. He has way too many years left on his contract.

The only hope is he accepts that he's not equipped to be successful in this new ****** age of college basketball, and negotiates some kind of settlement to do good by the program and hand over the keys to someone else. The anti-CVS.

He's clearly a good man, so maybe that actually happens.

If not, he needs to at minimum clean house with his assistant coaches. Replace them with people with fresh ideas. Who can actually coach a functional offense.

He also needs to embrace NIL. And he needs to get someone to help him evaluate talent.

You think Rutgers is going to the tournament every year?

He's 6’2, 165 pounds and by all accounts cannot shoot. Look at these EYBL stats from last season (click on Dybantsa’s name and you can see all the Oakland Raiders’ box scores), he made one singular three the entire season. Just sounds like JMike.

I don't care about that. I've watched him play, and he check outs. He's good, way better than Jmike. Think you'll be surprised

it’s reasonable that we now expect to make an appearance roughly every other season, and at worst once every 3 or 4 seasons. power-2 programs shouldn’t have droughts longer than a few years.
