I can not imagine any real competitor barely scraping together a winning season could actually think this year was a success. It is clear where the standard is set for real programs. 7-6 ain’t it…..I’m happy for the seniors to go out on a win and I’m trying not to be negative but my word beating a sub par team in a low level bowl if not the lowest level bowl to end the season one game above .500 is far from a celebration. Celebrating average is just weird …..
Being 7-6 is better than 6-7. Beating a sub par team is better than losing to a sub par team. We did that a couple of times this year. The team was persistent. It was nice to end with a win and not a loss. This season and bowl win is nothing to hold a parade for. Hopefully, it can give the program some momentum and confidence for next season.
Several coaches used to practice celebrating to get the players used to it. They need to win and expect to win. If that’s the start of it, then I’m cool with it. I have less trouble with the cigars and bowl celebrations than I do brawls after losses and the now tired “I got you” thing that was cool 6 seasons ago that went from sixty players circling him then to twenty and few if any starters now.
I’d love to see TU hire the female announcer that did one of our games this year.
Since TU missed out on the opportunity to hire Buckels, it will be interesting to see how those roles of missing coaching staff are filled.
1. Monty assumes the role of HC, OC and DC and collects all 3 salaries to make up for his contract extension.
2. This is due to the search for OC, DC, and replacement of the other missing position coaches not drawing any reasonable interest from other universities, junior colleges or high schools. There was one junior high coach interested who touted a unique 6-6-6 defense but the numbers didn’t add up.
3. Meanwhile it’s basketball season, and that was supposed to distract us from the football problems. It is, but not in the way that we hoped.
