Mid-season addition who should immediately make this men's team better, finished top 8 in the world cup in epee, and a #4 world youth ranking in 2025 and thus should contend for an individual NCAA title in Epee. Team captain for the Egypt youth team that won some international events.

Strong weekend for UNC fencing:

The #15 ranked women's team beats #8 UPenn (15-12) #13 St. John's, and #10 Penn State (22-5), plus unranked teams Wagner (22-5) and Vassar (23-4). that sweep is sure to help NCAA seeding/qualification for regionals

The 14th ranked men's team beats #9 Penn State (18-9) , plus unranked teams Wagner (17-10) and Vassar (24-3). But fall to #6 St. John's (8-19) and #7 UPenn (11-16). The men were without our probable best Epee dueler Youssef Shamel who is returning from a bronze at the Junior Epee World Cup, though even a 3-0 result from him would not have affected these two losses.

Coach Jednak notches his 200th win.

Way to go and great win for our men's and women's fencing team. Way to represent. Keeping on stacking those wins one match at a time. We are so proud of both teams. Go Heels!

Heels men won the individual Epee and Foil, had a 2nd place finisher in the sabre.

First time Heels have had multiple individual winners since the ACC restarted the sport in 2015.

Interestingly, there will be separate NCAA Championships for men and women this year! Potentially very relevant to the Director's Cup tracking

Trying to follow the ACC Championships, but it is hard.

Looks like the women finished 4th our of 5 teams, besting only BC. Notre Dame wins yet another title.

UNC men are seeded 3rd and still competing. They have some great talent at the top with Youssef Shamel winning the Epee individual title, Peter Bruk winning the Foil individual title, and Elden Wood runner-up in the Sabre.

First day is men individual's and women's team (Round Robin). Second day is the opposite.

Now, some assumptions here but my understanding is as follows:

For team, you pick 3 at each discipline and each of your 3 play a match to 5 against the other team's 3. Overall that leads to 9 matches per discipline, meaning 27 duels total and first to 14 wins, wins the whole match.

The men just took down #1 ND in their 2nd match of the day. We have 2nd seeded BC and 4th seeded Duke to go. BC is also undefeated thus far (Beat Duke and Stanford), Duke is 1-1 (Beat ND, Lost to BC).

I'd imagine a two-way tie in the round robin goes to the match winner, not sure how it's resolved in a 3 way tie. But either way, if we win our last two matches the men will win the ACC title. Our BC match starts in 10 minutes.

UNC just lost to BC in round 3.

In the final pairings ND well up on BC 10 -5, UNC behind dook 5-7. If UNC should rally they and BC should booth be 3-1. do they get the title by virtue of head-to head?

edit: the announcers just said there would be a championship duel if there is a tie.
But UNC now down 11-8 to dook (first to 14)

UNC Men lose the final round to dook , finish 3rd at 2-2. dook and BC will do a fence-off for the championship.

Our team stepped up in my estimation this year. Multiple dual wins against teams we typically lost to in the last 10 years or so.

And this year at ACC individuals, we had a 6 semifinalists whereas last year we had 3. And two champions / 4 medalists where last year one champion / 1 medalist.

Since nationals is determined by individual results (not duals), this bodes well.

All 3 did very well. We’re in 6th place like 2/3 of the way through. We probably can’t catch anyone in front of us because they have more fencers….but have a chance to hold 6th.
