Favorite I ever played in was Hinchliffe in Paterson. Belleville, Clifton and Kearny actually have cool set-ups with their 'don't make them like they used to' large WPA-era concrete stands (Kearny also has the school right behind/ above the stands with the NYC skyline serving as the backdrop for the field) and as far as a 'classic/ traditional' settings, Hawthorne and Nutley HS have great setups (also like Manchester, Randolph, Paramus and St. Joe's-Montvale as well).

Agree about the concrete stands. Bloomfield's Foley Field used to be my favorite before they started to crumble and were replaced.

Same thing with Collingswood Stadium until the knocked it down and replaced it with 2 small bleachers and a hill

Livingston HS, because I watched my daughter win conference, county and state soccer titles there. Also, one of the nicest public school fields you'll see.

I will go homer here....but Depken Field - Hasbrouck Heights. Stands built into the hill. But the true selling point being they are the Aviators while sitting in the stands you just the image of plane taking off and landing in Teterboro airport right across the highway.

Honorable mention to Weehawken which sits right on top of the entrance to the Lincoln Tunnel. Always loved playing there.

Back in my day Bloomfield and Clifton had great home stands.
The “overflowing” Nutley Oval was cool.
Martin Stadium in East Orange during the “back to back” state championship years was very cool.
Of course I’ll always be faithful to Woodman Field in good ol’ Montclair.

Asbury Park Stadium Is the most memorable place I’ve played, followed by Holmdel

Yes, my HS career was a number of non-descript suburban fields with aluminum bleachers . The Blue Bishops was the only place of note.

For the poop? LOL

And it’s memorable to me because it’s lined wrong.
I like Holmdel only because it’s pretty dramatic if you’re driving down the parkway on a Friday night and the lights are on and the parkway, the war memorial and PNC arts center overlooks the field.

That part is cool. Especially for night game.

But they need to reline the field as it's a little off. Will check this Spring if my Son's HS has a LAX game there.

Belleville (also used to be two big sets of wooden/ metal bleachers on the visitors' side until about 1999/2000):

Kearny:

Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson (first place I ever played on AstroTurf; really hope the planned renovation happens):

Bill Denny Stadium in South River. In the first football game my dad ever took me to in 1966, I saw Joe Thiesmann throw a touchdown pass to Drew Pearson. I don't remember the play, but my dad assured me that I saw it! :-D Also the playing field for Alexander "Wojie" Wojciechowicz who is in the Hall of Fame and played offensive line for Fordham with Vince Lombardi.

Del Val in the northwest. The stadium itself is nondescript, but driving up to stadium on a Friday night absolutely gives you that Field of Dreams vibe. It is located in the middle of corn fields with no other lights around.

I'll go with Phillipsburg. I've been to several games there. Not just a nice setting on a hill, large bleachers etc, but more importantly the fans are just very traditional. Saw a bunch of old ladies sitting together as if it was just somewhere they were supposed to be on a friday night. They take it seriously

I know it's not football but that's the same way I feel about the Manasquan in-line hockey rink right off the beach.

Lights usually shrouded in some sea mist or fog.

This is what I always played for them as we approached for a game or practice...

There's something about fields set on the side of a hill. In addition to the already mentioned Phillipsburg, I'd add North Hunterdon to the mix.

North Hunterdon visiting bleachers are interesting for sure. Unless they finally have upgraded them

NBHS played Phillipsburg when I was there, early 60's. Never beat them and playing at their place was exciting for HS football. Always a Friday night game with great attendance by the locals.

Phillipsburg is hard to beat, for tradition, and atmosphere. Been there, and have seen locals who have been coming there for years. Also I will put in a vote for Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick. Hillsborough in nice also, plenty of seating.

Funny. I grew up in NB for 27 years. Got married and lived in Hillsborough for 5 years, right across the street from the HS. Brand new condo complex at the time. Hillsborough looks a lot different nowadays. The big shopping complex at Amwell and Route 206 was just a field and the Flagtown carnival was a happening.

Nutley oval was better before the renovation when fans sat on opposite sides. The visitors actually sat in the concrete bleachers and Nutley fans on green wooden bleachers behind the Nutley bench.
Now all fans sit in concrete bleachers behind visitors bench
One of my favorites is Weehawken by the Lincoln tunnel entrance

I never knew that visiting fans sat in the concrete stands on the Franklin Ave side in the Oval at one point. I remember in the mid/ late 90's we (visitors) were by the baseball field/ snack stand in '95 and '97 and even after I graduated (98) into the early 2000's.

I do agree that the Oval seemed to lose a little something when they got rid of the opposite side bleachers after they put the turf in in 2005. Even as a Belleville guy I always thought the Oval setting was really solid, from walking 'down' to the field from the street to Franklin/Walker Middle as the backdrop (while also being right in the heart of downtown).

Nutley-Westfield at the Park Oval in early 70's etched in my mind. Whatever it sat, there had to be twice that many at the game.

I am from Union County and Westfield-Union-Elizabeth were the powerhouse back then. Long long before the parochials started handing out money to go to their schools
