I think I'll have to go with Union City, that elevated field is to die for!
Favorite I ever played in was Hinchliffe in Paterson. Belleville, Clifton and Kearny actually have cool set-ups with their 'don't make them like they used to' large WPA-era concrete stands (Kearny also has the school right behind/ above the stands with the NYC skyline serving as the backdrop for the field) and as far as a 'classic/ traditional' settings, Hawthorne and Nutley HS have great setups (also like Manchester, Randolph, Paramus and St. Joe's-Montvale as well).

Same thing with Collingswood Stadium until the knocked it down and replaced it with 2 small bleachers and a hillAgree about the concrete stands. Bloomfield's Foley Field used to be my favorite before they started to crumble and were replaced.

I've been to a game at Woodman, many many years ago.Clary was HC and Butch was an assistant.Back in my day Bloomfield and Clifton had great home stands.
The “overflowing” Nutley Oval was cool.
Martin Stadium in East Orange during the “back to back” state championship years was very cool.
Of course I’ll always be faithful to Woodman Field in good ol’ Montclair.
You done good. Great reading.Hey Zap....off topic here but my uncle was always a big fan of your dad's so I bought him the book for his birthday last week. Not much of a reader but he cracked it right open.
For the poop? LOLAsbury Park Stadium Is the most memorable place I’ve played, followed by Holmdel

I like Holmdel only because it’s pretty dramatic if you’re driving down the parkway on a Friday night and the lights are on and the parkway, the war memorial and PNC arts center overlooks the field. For the poop? LOL
And it’s memorable to me because it’s lined wrong.
That part is cool. Especially for night game.I like Holmdel only because it’s pretty dramatic if you’re driving down the parkway on a Friday night and the lights are on and the parkway, the war memorial and PNC arts center overlooks the field.
That's a great stadium. Does the baseball field still measure 350 down the lines? My Alma Mater.

I know it's not football but that's the same way I feel about the Manasquan in-line hockey rink right off the beach.Del Val in the northwest. The stadium itself is nondescript, but driving up to stadium on a Friday night absolutely gives you that Field of Dreams vibe. It is located in the middle of corn fields with no other lights around.
There's something about fields set on the side of a hill. In addition to the already mentioned Phillipsburg, I'd add North Hunterdon to the mix.
Funny. I grew up in NB for 27 years. Got married and lived in Hillsborough for 5 years, right across the street from the HS. Brand new condo complex at the time. Hillsborough looks a lot different nowadays. The big shopping complex at Amwell and Route 206 was just a field and the Flagtown carnival was a happening.Phillipsburg is hard to beat, for tradition, and atmosphere. Been there, and have seen locals who have been coming there for years. Also I will put in a vote for Memorial Stadium in New Brunswick. Hillsborough in nice also, plenty of seating.
Nutley oval was better before the renovation when fans sat on opposite sides. The visitors actually sat in the concrete bleachers and Nutley fans on green wooden bleachers behind the Nutley bench.Favorite I ever played in was Hinchliffe in Paterson. Now all fans sit in concrete bleachers behind visitors bench
One of my favorites is Weehawken by the Lincoln tunnel entrance
As a kid I remember the NBHS vs Phillipsburg games well. Great atmosphere.NBHS played Phillipsburg when I was there, early 60's. Never beat them and playing at their place was exciting for HS football. Always a Friday night game with great attendance by the locals.
Wife is from Bloomfield they were still there when I 1st moved there. I have lived in Nutley and have yet to make a game at the ovalBack in my day Bloomfield and Clifton had great home stands.

I am from Union County and Westfield-Union-Elizabeth were the powerhouse back then. Long long before the parochials started handing out money to go to their schoolsNutley-Westfield at the Park Oval in early 70's etched in my mind. Whatever it sat, there had to be twice that many at the game.
