Last week, I posted my excitement about the upcoming Hail State Baseball father/son camp. Per your (some of you) request, here is my follow up:
It was nothing short of amazing! it began Saturday afternoon, which was a blessing as it took me away from the reality of the football game. Also, it took the bond between my son and I up a notch. Coach Lemonis, Coach Cheesbrough, Coach Foxhall, Roger Rodeheaver, Tyler Younger, et al were all there (Gautreau was away recruiting). Each of these guys took a vested interested in the kids as well as spending time with the dads.
They all seem to really love MSU, Starkville and each of the players. We got to hang out with Tanner Allen, Rowdy Jordan, and Brad Cumbest (sunday).
The camping-out in the Palmerio Center was a great experience but the various drills on DNF was an experience I will never forget.
Our first activity took place on DNF and we entered from the Palmerio Center into the gate/entrance in left field, close to bull pen. Walking onto that field, the lights shining down, taking in the beauty of the new stadium....I felt like a kid again. It was amazing.
Later, Coach Lemonis took us on a tour of the locker room, The Triple Crown Club, the player's "hang out" area, the pitching lab, etc. Let me tell you, I don't know what other facilities are like in college baseball, but I could not dream of a better stadium and place to recruit. We have a gem in this facility and the staff. The whole experience was positive, but I can't leave out the teaching...there were various drills and mechanics taught that we will take with us.
My son and I will definitely be back next year!

He is 7 (second grade). One thing I learned, which surprised me. The kids can not attend this camp past 12 yo. Once they are 13, they are considered a "potential student athlete" and camps such as this are considered benefits. That blew my mind.

Did you know that Lemonis has had success everywhere he has been and also went to more than 1 CWS, meaning multiple trips.

Man, that sounds an awful lot like the guy Cohen told us he was going to hire.

Just goes to show when Cohen has a full season to conduct his search, he can find the right fit. Too bad he only had a few weeks in his football coaching search.

I know it was advertised for at least two months prior. I saw it promoted through Hailstate.com and also received emails about it. We signed up in late August but I saw there were still slots available as recently as 1-2 weeks ago.

Great to hear. My son is about to be six and loves some baseball. He and I had a blast at his first super last year. I didn’t realize they did a camp in the fall. Thanks for posting
