Fan black out

Last year Nebraska decided to go with a fan black out when playing Wisconsin, similar to what Penn St does with their white out. From a camera view it didn’t get the desired effect and hope we don't do it again. I’m ok with a red out because that is who we are just as a white out is who Penn St is.

Black out doesn't work too well because it's not a school color. We do red every game. Why should we change it for Wisconsin? Who is the real Big Red? Time to start worrying about how we play on the field instead of the stuff that means nothing.

You mean like tunnel walk, sellout streaks and Urban Meyer? Sounds kind of boring

Considering the fans have next to nothing to do with how the team plays on the field, things like whiteouts, pink outs or whatever -outs you like is kind of the only thing we have any sort of control over. So I’m not sure wasting my time worrying only about on the field stuff is very productive use of time.

Ha. You're just playing devil's advocate. We have our traditions. Stuff like blackouts, Under Armor contracts and alt unis won't help us win more football games. I hope the recruits don't have time to worry about any of that crap. I'm sure that Coach Frost can find ways to occupy their time and get them focused on what really matters.

It only fails because you are counting on 90,000 to wear a specific color and the school isn’t involved in the promotion. Penn St’s white out has a shirt designed and sponsored by Nike and is sold at the school’s official online store and other retailers.

If the university and adidas combined to promote a blackout or white out for a specific game, the participation would be higher.

"only" might not be the correct word choice.
Teams that have success with this stuff often go a step further and provide materials and/or shirts to ticket holders.
Plus the colors they use are typically school colors of some sort. Black isn't. I suggest we try to have an actual red out sometime, which would be much easier to accomplish and would look cool. Literally all red with no white or black at all has never been done, why not try that instead?
And it's not that I have anything against black. Everyone gets caught up on how cool it would look to have all of memorial stadium black, and forgets the reality that it is impossible to accomplish.

My point is that the school picks the game, promotes the game as such, provides the shirt, whether or not it is given or sold, and the athletic apparel company is involved with the production of the shirt.

What it isn’t, is Joe and Jane student putting out a tweet or putting up poster at the student union and hoping it catches on.

Maybe the university and Adidas could announce that all proceeds from the shirt sale goes to a charity. Maybe a charity that benefits children?

The university could also do a 50/50 type raffle that day to raise money for the same charity...make it a huge event.

Paging Matt Davison and Bill Moos.

Ohio State, September 29: Penn State White Out

  • All fans are encouraged to sport white attire to ensure a Penn State White Out for the clash with the Buckeyes.
  • A Nittany Lion fan favorite, the 2018 Official Penn State White Out T-shirt was again a joint project between Penn State University and Nike. Nike's custom design features a one-of-a-kind photo concept that depicts the Penn State White Out inside the text on the front of the T-Shirt and bears the Stadium Cheer "We Are" on the back. This year's T-shirt is available now through the Penn State Bookstore as well as online via shop.GoPSUsports.com. The 2018 Penn State White Out T-shirt is available now and will be at the Stadium locations this weekend during the Blue-White Game.

I guess with NU it's just different. We're known as the BIG RED, we have the Sea of Red and we yell Go Big Red. Why not just embrace it? If we're going back to the formula and culture, embrace it rather than gimmicks.
This. Penn State needs a white out game now and then precisely because there is no tradition there of fans agreeing to wear a single color. So they have to specify a day. Lol. We already have the tradition of wearing all red for every game. We are known for it. Black isn't even a school color. Even if Adidas gave me a free black t shirt at the gate I would not wear it.

I'd wear it. Just not at the game.

I'm pretty sure 2001 vs. Notre Dame (on the heels of what Husker fans did at South Bend the year before) and 2010 vs. Texas ("Red Out Around The World!!!") were heavily promoted as "red outs" and both were successful (in the stands at least; the latter was a turd burger on the field).

lots of huskers fans have white, black or even gray on game day. There may be lots of red but the sea of red has had spots of other colors mixed in for some time.
