This team is still trying to find it‘s personality. Offense is going to be a challenge. Because of that I hope to see Brooks get lots of minutes.

I liked the more aggressive defense in the 2nd period. Think we may need that effort a lot this year. FU was really aggressive and physical going to the basket. Not perfect, a win, I’ll take it. Better than our offense on FB.

I think Laila Hull needs more playing time. She is 6'1 and could be a tall 2G who can shoot.

Both Lanie and Reniya are yet to hit their offensive strides so far this season.

We need to be hitting on all cylinders.

Happy how Ciera is playing. Having BT 100% would help our frontcourt rotation a lot.

A good win over a NCAAT team and a team getting T25 votes- they’ll won 28+ games again this year.

Showed flashes of really good. Started 1-9 from 3 and made 7 of the next 14. Toomey looked great- another double figure performance in just 17 min. Another sign of moving towards the right direction was just 10 turnovers. They are starting to piece it together. We’re just 4 games in and our expected 3-1 record. Still a lot to work on and improved, but again, that’s expected. 5 players scored double figures and 9 played 17+ min and just 1 played 25+ minutes.

Holding a 22-point lead with 2 minutes left against a top 30 team is legit. It wouldn’t have been a 14 point deficit if Banghart didn’t sub in Barker and key players out from the 3 or 4 minute mark. We had a rough first quarter against an unconventional - and good - offense and we fought back. That’s what mid-majors do. Great win! Fairfield is going to be a tough out all season.

Reniya has fingers taped together on her shooting hand. Assuming things will turn around when that’s healed up.

Agree. I think you have to find some minutes for her even if she has deficits in some areas.

It is interesting that Fairfield has adopted the team nickname – “Stags” – for their women’s’ programs. A “stag” is of course an adult (antlers required) male red deer. The name can have other meanings, including some unfortunate ones like “stag film”.

History of the Stag

With the dawn of the first athletic team (cross country) in the fall of 1947, it became apparent that a nickname would be needed. For the 1947–48 season, Fairfield University adopted the "Men In Red" as its nickname.

The following year, the university introduced men's basketball as its next team and its first varsity sport. With the start of varsity sports, the school put it to the students for input in naming of a school mascot. Two recommendations were made to the board of trustees for an official decision and vote. As the late Fr. Charles F. Duffy S.J. recounted: "As a member of the Board of Trustees, I remember voting at a board meeting late in 1948 on the naming for our athletic teams. We voted for Stags over Chanticleers!"

What made the decision for the Board a bit easier and logical was that the school was part of the Diocese of Hartford and the word Hartford means stags (hart) and stream (ford). According to Webster's New World Dictionary the word "hart" means "A male of the European red deer; stag." As for the world "ford" Webster describes it as "A shallow place in a stream, river, etc."

As a result, Fairfield University's seal itself was designed featuring a deer leaping over a tumbling brook to represent both the school's connection with the Dioceses as well with its close ties with nature.

I would have played Ashkatova just to get her some game experience for down the road. Let us hope that CB and staff will play her in the next two games. Go Heels!

Not impressed by a 14-point win. UNC gave up far too many layups and threes. Too many fouls were called and that didn't help, but in reality, this kind of game will not work against Texas or Kansas State.

No Blanca Thomas.

Our next two games are with cupcakes - both under 300 NET - so time to work on some fundamentals before we head to Cancun.
We were up by 25 when UNC emptied the bench while Fairfield kept in their starters. That is a more accurate representation of how this game ended, in my opinion. With that said, Q1 was ugly, no doubt.

fairfield was the floppingest team I have ever seen and the refs often fell for it. It was like a Coach K fever dream. And not just on the ball, Fairfield purposefully went down on post ups and off ball screens. Nivar missed most of the first half as a result.

This team really loves one another. The video is a testament to this fact. I hope recruits will see this video and realize you can come off of the bench at UNC and make a huge impact in the game. LH has worked her butt off in the off season along with CT and you can clearly see that all the hard work is starting to pay off for both of them. I hope CB will play her more moving forward. We are going to need people who can shoot the ball in the games moving forward.
