Eye-Test vs Metrics

Anyone who saw Rutgers go toe-to-toe with two Top 20 teams on a neutral court has to be thinking we have chance to make some noise in the big dance.

The problem of course is that the metrics have to catch up to the eye test, so we can make it to the big dance to begin with.

Just one more reason we need to put it all together today and get a much-needed road win.

Let’s do this.

Especially since every game in this league is going to be tough; Penn State beat Purdue and Northwestern beat Illinois last night

To me the eyes and the metrics see the same thing.
81 overall
53 on offense
157 on defense

Why aren't we better on O?
172nd in offensive rebounding
230th in 3 point shooting 31.7%
299th in 3pt rate 33.7& of attempts
163rd effective fg rate 51.1%
My point was about the eye test for only the last two games, against the best teams we’ve played so far, and on a neutral court.

What were our metrics in just those two games?
What were the metrics for Alabama and TAMU, combined, in our two games against them?

No one is suggesting, since those teams barely beat us, that they don’t belong in the tournament.

We are not better on O because Pike and staff are very limited and bad offensive coaches. Hopefully they figure something out soon. Talent is there

Michigan going to have one of the biggest turnarounds in all of college basketball with a roster shakeup with 10 new players

8-24 last year and now 3 minutes away from going 8-1/2-0

Pike brought in awful portal guys. He got handed two top NB lottery picks and **** the bed when it came to locking up a legit C and other pieces around them.
i know Acuff got hurt but bringing him in didnt really make sense on this team....RU needed a rebounder and defensive guy...#1 priority, not a small guy scoring 24 ppg at a midmajor

Not sure he had the funds to land the kind of players that would make a difference. He couldn’t pay cliff.

Acuff is kinda like a lower quality CJ Wilcher.

I think between Acuff and JWill they thought they had a 3rd scorer, and so far neither is.

We needed to replace Jwill and have him be a player off the bench for us. This was so apparent everyone was really upset about the notion. If you want better players you need to given them minutes.

The league is brutal and it seems everyone is old. The key in the ncaa is to get old and stay old. We’ve strayed far away from that.
The B1G Ten is even tougher this season with the addition of the four west coast teams.

It looks like we are going to be severely outclassed in the BIG based upon how we look and others in the conference look. If things don’t improve quickly, we could be looking at a record around last year’s 15-17……think about that. Obviously, the plan is for this team to win with offense, but Pike has to to figure out a way to patch together something better than the defense we have shown thus far. The PSU game is critical as it’s starting to get late early……

this board annointed J Will the missing piece for last year and then after his initial few games, he basically disippated.
not totally true. He was dealing with that shoulder injury. Then Vegas came and he scored 10 points against Notre Dame and 10 points against Alabama and fouled out with 10 minutes left and then scored 20 against Texas A& M. So it appeared like we were getting our third scorer and ACE and Dylan looked solid for 40-50+ a game. The way we scored in Vegas with 3 legitimate scorers normally would result in 3 wins and we were unfortunate to only get one. J. Williams was shooting better including hitting a bunch of clutch threes.

Then Ohio State happens and JW only gets 2 points which really should not be happening from our senior. That whole game was a failure from Pike and the entire leadership of the team with the worst mindset coming into a game they really had to have but did not show the effort or intensity necessary to get the win.
However , I do believe JWilliams can be our third scorer and then get something out of Ogbole/ Somerville .
