Eye-opening Geo stats

I was surprised to see Geo is 2nd in the B1G in steals and 5th in assists. Not bad for a guy many see as not a true point guard.

Also not bad for a sophomore who brings leadership and clutchness, is our second best foul shooter and second leading scorer.

Another hidden benefit of Corey going pro: Geo is going to be much more adept at handling the ball next season than if Corey were here this year.

FWIW I happen to think Mulcahy will be very good and will be the primary ballhandler but having this season being thrown in the fire of being a PG by default can only help Geo.

Zero chance Mulcahy starts at start of next season. He will have to fight for minutes with s loaded back court. Mulcahy needs to improve D and shooting if he wants to see floor. I see him as a 18 minute per game guy. Geo should be over 30 minutes next year.

I see Gene and Geo next year scoring like Murphy and Coffey did this year, both around 15 points per game, with Geo playing some point but mostly the 2-guard spot, especially after Mulcahy takes over at point guard.

They're ahead of us, and those two guys are great, but I'd rather not use the Gophers as a comparison right now... lol

I hear ya. Was thinking more along the lines of Murphy being a senior forward and Coffey a junior guard this year, both scoring 15 per game. I see that scenario for Gene and Geo next year.

Stats are nice. Still not a PG.

Stats and peoples' opinions aside, a lot will probably be decided by the pre-season and players' offseason development

I know for a fact the coaching staff expects big things from Mulcahy from the get go.

And if he plays 20+ mpg, whether he starts or not isn’t particularly relevant. It’s minutes played and who closes out games.

Geo is likely to close it every game while on the banks. He is very clutch and coach believes it too

Being 5th in the conference in assists is remarkable when you consider he’s passing to guys who can’t shoot. And being 2nd in steals seems to give support to him being a better defender than he’s given credit for.

I just meant who is on the court in crunch time, 1 through 5, not who takes big shots. That’s definitely Geo.

Geo is a point guard. Period

He is a scoring point guard ...and even more nexesssry on a team that he was the one guy returning who scores double digits last year

I quite confident that next year he might score 11-12 ppg (instead of 13-14) in a much More efficient manner (more selective on shot ) with more development of the scorers around him ...and his assist will go way up
