Ex-Cat as Head Coach

Haven't seen mention on this or earlier board, and in fact I tardily realized the head coach of a Div I women's program is a former Wildcat from the Carmody years. Here's a link:


He's had a pretty tough first year at Houston Christian, after inheriting little talent from the previous coach. (I think it was Darrell Royal who said, "A new coach seldom climbs into a warm bed.") As the bio describes, in his most recent slot at a Div III school, Coach Long did quite a rebuilding job. I hope he'll be given a chance to do the same in Houston (his original home town, by the way).

Thanks for posting. I didn't know about this connection. Believe it or not, I've been following the Southland Conference a bit, as we have a place in east Texas and I've gone to some Stephen F. Austin basketball games this season. They're fun to watch, though they're obviously not at the same level as Big Ten games.

Looks like HCU's season is over, as they didn't qualify for their conference tournament, which only takes the top eight teams. Good luck to him next year!
