I like the impact ABS is having on "entitled" at-bats. This past weekend I believe there were three times when Kyle Schwarber took a 3-2 pitch in the strike zone. But of course it's against the hapless Rockies, so Schwarber just threw his bat away and trotted toward first, with the umpire dutifully granting him a walk.

But then the pitches were challenged, and he had to make a U-turn for the dugout. Loved it.

Baseball pitting players vs umps and putting the whole thing on the big board has been awesome

every sport needs this system yesterday

a huge value add any way you slice it
And it takes 10 seconds in baseball. MLB nailed this.

Meanwhile, basketball refs are discussing their evening plans after the game, and texting their wives for 8 minutes while they review a play. Every fan in America can see within four seconds the ball clearly went off the blue team. Not these geniuses. They need to call New York, call their wives, take a vote, pass the hat, scratch each other‘s nuts before they make a decision.

my biggest gripe with replay/challenge in basketball, football, wrestling. takes way too long. Heck, we even have "quick commercial breaks" some times during these challenges. Its insane. Make the call and get the game going again.

I just think the players look retarded patting their heads like a good boy to challenge lol but doesn't look as bad as the NBA fairies twirling their fingers in circle over every single call and play begging for a challenge/review.

In the case of the MLB the only thing that will save that 20th century past time is to break both the umpire and players unions.

For NCAA sports I think having BIG XII, SEC, ACC, and BIG refs on a rotation of officiating every conference but their own could work. Obviously, logistics and cost would make it difficult.

The issue that a genius like you can’t figure out is in other sports like basketball and football it’s not only the play in question it’s also a clock issue. This takes the time.

Isn’t baseball the only sport with balls and strikes?

Basketball arenas currently use 20 high resolution cameras in the rafters, they could already use AI to make 10 second decisions on fouls and out of bounds plays. What is interesting in MLB is that the system isn't used as often as we think, umps are actually very good outside of the few really old ones protected by the union. NBA refs are also pretty good at calling what they are directed to call, the league changes its mind on what a foul is every year, sometimes mid-year.

Every sport has refs

they should be held accountable for their calls in front of the entire stadium
Does have every sport not have replay? The replays in memorial stadium are shown in the big screen.how is football and basketball officiating not held accountable?

The NBA does not allow coaches to challenge or review non-calls (instances where no whistle was blown), as a review can only be triggered on a specific call made by the game officials. Additionally, several judgment-based calls are explicitly non-reviewable under the Coach's Challenge rules, including traveling, carrying, double dribble, flopping, offensive or defensive three-second violations, and technical or flagrant fouls.

The NFL rulebook explicitly lists eight situations that cannot be reviewed, primarily because they involve subjective judgment calls or situations where the play is considered dead before the review could logically occur. Penalties (such as holding, pass interference, or face masks) are the most prominent non-reviewable plays, with the sole exception of objective elements like 12 men on the field or an illegal forward pass.

Other specific non-reviewable plays include:

Runner ruled down by defensive contact or out of bounds (unless it involves a fumble or the line to gain).
The position of the ball when not related to a first down or goal line.
Field-goal or Try attempts that cross above either upright without touching anything.
Erroneous whistles or forward progress calls.
Quarterback "spike" to kill the clock.
Time on the clock (game clock, play clock, or down), though officials can add time if a half expired incorrectly.

If refs of both leagues were held accountable for incorrect calls it would be nice.

Well in our case it doesn’t matter because our coach has never won a challenge in his life

I take a shot at bball replays and you decide to be a dick? Noted. Add 6 seconds for checking the clock time which is right there on the video. We are up to about 20 seconds needed not 8 minutes.

Can ABS figure out how much time to put back on the clock? Can it figure out what yard-line to put the ball at after all penalties are assessed?
Not only that, it’s part of the show now

salvy perez vs the ump is worth the price of admission

the fans love it when the ump (ref) is publicly humiliated

this would be an all-time addition to the NFL especially
