almost all comments about the Mountaineer football team center on the QB and offense? Which is odd for folks who follow the sport. Champions are made from defense and ability to control the game by running effectively. Maybe it is the new generation of video game football fans, or a result of playing in a no defense, shoot out, four and 1/2 hour, prancing and dancing conference. Who knows. Just sayin'

QB is the most important position on the field.
QB play usually determines where a team is at in the Big 12.

Play calling on both sides determine how a defense looks.
Truthfully most defenses suck at the college level because they don't have the players needed.

What Clemson does is jump on teams and uses a pass rush...

Clemson is shaky at DB. Their troubles the last few years have been on the back end.
Brent Venables is a great DC with a high power offense.
Clemson jumps on teams 14-0...
Forces then to become one dimensional.

West Virginia did this against Tennessee, Baylor and TCU last year to a lesser extent.

Maybe the Texas two step refers to taking two steps away from any contact on the football field? Just sayin'

Your trolling is weak...

More open space on the football field.
The more of a chance that someone is going to get their head knocked off.

Watched a lot of spring games and Texas was the only one I saw where the backup QB was leveled.
They were smart enough not to hit Ehlinger

You are right Root, but any good team needs a QB not to only manage the offense but to secure first downs when its 3rd and +6 to keep the clock running, defense off the field and sustain drives for points. Without a good QB the offense puts too much pressure on the defense. QB is the straw that stirs the drink to copy a phrase.

Well if you don’t have qb you can’t win. The trenches are crazy important but without a QB nothing really matters

We will have a qb lol. However expectations have gone off charts because of the need to throw...throw...and throw some more with the born to fail air raid system. Can win with efficiency and effectiveness and a run oriented...fundamentally sound approach. Hope this is what nb will bring.

You ever seen Back to the Future...

Take a coach like Lincoln Riley or any of the top coaches around today and let them coach a football team in 1987...
Any Top 20-25 team.

They will win a NC .

Football evolves...
It changes because teams are always looking for ways to outfox each other.

Neal Brown isn't Bill Parcells.
Parcells was able to change teams over night in the NFL like that because you can change the roster
Neal Brown has to coach WV by the players he has not by any offensive system.

To allow this to hit home...

Bob Stoops was the DC at Florida in 1998.
After the season he hired Mike Leach as OC when he took the Oklahoma job

Reason why he hired Leach.
Kentucky was the toughest offense he played all year. Tim Couch was the #1 draft pick because of that offense. Couch was doing the SEC dirty.

Guess who was a walk WR on that team....

Neal Brown.

Being physical and running the ball doesn't take away from the need to be able to open up a defense with the pass.
This was proven 20+ years ago in CFB.

A QB can be great and still put huge pressure on the D by calling deep passes on 3rd and short. Or audibling to passes when we should run the dam ball. Or fumbles that give their side easy scores.

Neal Brown said he plans to run a “get-it-done” offense. I take that to mean he will run whatever play it takes to win the game and won’t just be stuck in a one dimensional offense because he wants to force a system to work.

Gonna miss the good old days of DH...third and one from our own 40 so let's heave it deep...then run the old trickaroo on fourth and lose 7 yards.
