Undoubtedly one of the classiest moves I have ever seen by a coach. I was in tears. Thank you, Essy and thank you, CVS.

It reminded me of Geno putting in his player who had been injured with a torn acl in the late 90s or early 2000s at the RAC. I can't recall her name but she was a star.

Shea Ralph? (who had, if I remember correctly, 3-4 such injuries.)

No it was an African American player. I am getting too old. she played later in the WNBA and was pretty good there as well.

Nykesha Sales. They had her start the game after she was diagnosed (against Villanova, I think), and Geno had a deal with the opposing coach to have UConn win the tip and pass to her for a layup because she needed 1 or 2 points to become the leading scorer in UConn history. (Then UConn let the opponent score to make it 2-2, and they started to play in earnest.)

One more thing - putting Essy in the game means that she'll go into the record book one more time - it was her 129th game, which adds her to the multiple-player tie for 8th all time in games played at RU.

oh yes, you're correct. I do remember that, and Geno took some heat for it.

That was real classy of C. Viv to let Syessence end her career on the floor.

Essie/team was smart enough to take a shot, thereby making an appearance in the box score and stat sheet.
