I notice in duals their 125, 157, 285 are undefeated on the season. Also their 133 and 174 are 7-1. They have wrestled a couple of top ten teams Va Tech and Lehigh. Looks like a better dual than I originally thought.

Their 125 got teched by Lee at midlands, he’s a tough out historically gotten the better of Piccininni dating back to HS but Picc has the recent win at nationals

This will be a good opportunity to measure Picc's improvement from last year. I expect him to control the match and win comfortably.

picc winner 3 - 1
Picinini was not impressive. Rode his opponent but did not get close to Russells legs. Kaid won but was not impressive either. He only got 1 takedown and he gave up 1 takedown. He won on riding time. Heil won by tech fall and he was impressive but wrestling a weak opponent.

Lewallan dominated his opponent and got a pin just before it would have been a tech fall. Blaylock got dominated by his opponent riding him for over 4 minutes. He never got close to an escape. He lost 3 to 0. Rogers got a pin in 39 seconds.

Might have been a bit quick on the pin, but I'll take it. Boo with the pin, he would have had the tech if the pin wasn't called.

Hastens lost by decision, I sure would rather see Smith wrestle.

Moore won 9 to 2 missed the major because of locked hands. Weigel isn't wrestling because of injury. Marsden will wrestle 97.
Marsden won by 14 points. His opponent had absolutely nothing at the end. White won by major and had 5 takedowns against the 19 rated HWT.

Man does Derek look impressive. Miller is a solid heavy and Derek dominated him in all 3 positions.

A lot of mismatches tonight, including 197, but I still thought Andrew looked good. Was that him jogging back to center full of energy late in the match? Nice showing by him.

And I have to give Hestin some props. He's a 165 that could probably make 157, but he's battling some tough 174s for the team.

I guess I'm not sure what was expected of Pic tonight... He was going up against a former AA (7th) and kid who he had lost to two of the last three times. He is tough to score on and always has been.

I saw continued improvement in the two areas Pic has historically struggled with on bottom and on top and beat a kid who had been tough to beat in the past.

He did look good on top and bottom but on his feet not so much. For Picc to do well at Nationals he has to be able to get on legs really well. In 4 and a half minutes he never once made a good shot that got on Russell's legs. Russell got in deep 3 times with Picc including when he got an escape at 12 seconds left and within 1 second he had Piccs leg up in the air. He won, did some things well but I don't think he did well on his feet except he did defend those 3 shots even though all 3 were close to scoring. 82 we see things differently which is okay.

Not really. You beat different people with different gameplans. If Pic wrestler everybody the same way, he’ll lose.

Think Chris Perry and Andrew Howe. Chris had to learn to wrestle Howe differently than the way he wrestled everybody else, and even Howe the first and second time. That’s what makes John the most dangerous coach in the business...he’ll find how to attack an opponent better than other coaches.

Picinnini may need to be a little more aggressive...or maybe not. Maybe John wanted that type of match for Nick against Russell. I honestly don’t know, but I do think wrestlers wrestle different opponents differently based on their strengths and weaknesses.

Boy, you want to get a bunch of likes go against my negative posts. I still believe if Picc doesn't get to his opponents legs as in this match he will not do well at Nationals. Yes he might win 1 tough match just with his top wrestling and escaping but 125 has a lot of tough wrestlers who get a lot of takedowns. Of course he usually is very good at getting to legs but he did not come close to getting a hold of a leg in this match and that concerned me.

That's exactly why I'm here...to get likes from people. :)

I don't disagree that if he can't get takedowns, he's not going to be successful at the NCAAs. But, as you also just mentioned, he usually does. In this particular match, he had difficulty so he used a different strategy. I don't think this one match overrides the other 40 matches worth of evidence that he'll be able to get takedowns.
