Wow hope you all get by
Not sure if this is sarcasm so not going to treat it as such. Anytime these two high schools compete in anything it’s a rivalry game. Some people don’t realize how close the communities are. Everyone knows everyone and the athletes grow up playing against/with each other. Not to mention Providence Grove is a 2A school, as is the entire conference part of Eastern Randolph’s complete “play up” schedule which can start to take a toll this far into year.

I hope ER gets by as well. If they don’t I will not be shocked.

The six two , two hundred thirty five pound quarterback for ER will give Providence Grove flashbacks of Kenny " Snake " Stabler . Eastern Randolph by twenty.
P.S. According to Google, Providence Grove is 10. 6 miles to Eastern Randolph. Providence Grove has a Climax address, and of course Eastern Randolph is in the scenic village of Ramseur. Good luck to both squads.
P.S.S. When researching the milage between the two institutions, I noticed that one has to travel via Kidds Mill Road, assuming this artery is probably named for Mister Kidd. Is this a true statement, Sir ? Hoping you and yours are well.
P.S.S.S. Until this year, I had thought Juke Box Hero was a Southeast Guilford alum.

Naw Chute was a Wildcat through and through albeit he has a fondness for the Patriots because well…who knows?
Anyway Kidd’s Mill can be used as a conduit between the two schools or Hwy 22 through Franklinville if you want an extra five minutes added to ride. Unfortunately the Mill is not named for myself or any of my direct lineage. My grandfather(Pawpaw) was half brother with some gentlemen from northern Randolph so perhaps there is a connection somehow. Have traveled said road quite a few hundred times in last 43 years. Community of Grays Chapel, which you may have noticed as you perused the route, at one time was famous for only one thing, lovely young ladies. It was here that I found what would turn out to be the lovely Mrs Kidd. Oh and Providence Grove is really closer to Red Cross than Climax, which is actually in Guilford county. That whole address thing happens quite a bit out here in the metropolis laden place known as Randolph county.
As always GSO thank you for contributing to an ER thread…

Southeast? Southeast?? Surely you jest. I would never claim those "Oakies".

Red Cross Providence Grove. Now, I really like the sound of that.

Grays Chapel did have its share of lovely young ladies. That I know for a fact.

I'm not sure which batch of Kidd's that road is named for.

The score at the half was 7-7. PG had a great gameplan and was playing some inspired defense. In the second quarter, Zander Cheek made an amazing catch inside the five to set up PG's only touchdown.

As in the first half, ER capitalized on a long first drive to make it 14-7. That score lasted until late in the third quarter.......then came the two momentum changers. ER forces PG into fourth down. PG punts but the ER returnman muffs the kick......and PG recovers deep in ER territory.

About two/three plays later, the PG QB rolls out to his right looking to make something happen. He shoots one out in the flat. However, Lucas Smith sees it coming two miles away. He picks it off in full stride and rumbles down the left sideline around 80 yards for the backbreaking TD. Smith also had another pick later on.

Devonte Brooks ran the ball really well for ER. I think he scored at least two TD's (he had a very nice run for his last TD).

The thing that surprised me the most last night was the play of PG's sophomore QB, Brady Collins. That kid throws a nice ball (with some zip). He also showed off some playmaking ability. Collins has been good on the defensive side of the ball but I'd never seen him at QB until last night. He looked way more natural behind center than PG's previous starter.

I have to mention that I saw one of the coolest things I've ever seen on the field last night. As both teams were entering the field, each shot off some smoke. PG had the white smoke and ER had the dark green. The two trails starting drifting towards each other and, at one point, the ER trail was directly resting under the PG trail. It was beautiful (but definitely not an indication of how the game went).

I love watching that green ER smoke go through the air. It reminds me of the mist that the legendary Great Kabuki used to shoot out (which, nine times out of ten, would always blind Jimmy Valiant).
