East Wikes coming off a 62-7 loss to MT Airy. Ekin won their 1st game vs North Stokes. Any thoughts? I will say East Wilkes by 8
That's good I heard from a few players well nephew did that the QB from East was tough as nails. Glad he's ok. A sack from 32 at full speed and repeatedly has to hurt. Glad he's ok.If healthy and EW doesnt let that beat down from last week ruin their season, I see EW by ALOT in this game. I would be fine with saying by 4tds. Like last year EW started out strong then go beat down by East Surry and just never regrouped from that loss. Hopefully this year they can move on and finish out the season on a winning streak and ride the momentum into the playoffs. Should set up a good showdown the last week of the season against Starmount as well. As for the kids hurt, Gentry walked off the field, not heard an update on him and Martin the RB, I was told suffered an ankle injury. Hopefully nothing too serious and they are back this weekend.
Are you saying that East Wilkes is at home in a physical game? Or are you saying that Mount airy has more athletes. And better ones. And that they being Mount airy are at home in physical game.? I would agree with you on all those fronts but I think you're saying that that game that East Wilkes game was not physical. I went to it because our games aren't really even close anymore. Thinking that the East Wilkes game would be a good game because you know they were ranked what fourth in the RPI? 3 or 4 spots ahead of Mount airy I think. If East is at home in a physical game they sure weren't in that game because they didn't only get dominated by better athletes they got dominated though on the line of scrimmage physically. Maybe you're thinking of something else though.I've seen both this year and honestly judging by pure talent East is a lot better. The MA game went a lot like I feared because they struggle with mass athletes. However if a game comes down to the line and pure physicality they really benefit and are at home.
Elkin meanwhile surprised me quite a bit when we played them. They came ready to play and had a lot more heart than they've had in a while. They played us hard for a half before we wore their defense down; O wise that QB is a load and hard to stop if he finds any momentum. He doesn't run it as much which is for his benefit he got beat to pieces last year. Last fall I felt they wasted a lot of their talent and had no heart. This year they are a 180. Senior class seems more together than the last one. They aren't super great but if they are overlooked they can stay around.
East can't afford a letdown here at all; they badly need to stay afloat and keep on moving. This will be a great test for Wilmoth to see if he can rally the troops up or not. Elkin doesn't have much to lose which makes them dangerous. They don't have a freshman class like that 2017 group to help them so does hurt but they have a perfect opportunity to knock the favorites off their perch.
Did you see the game? I agree with you that these folks should have looked better against Mount airy. But they didn't. They got dominated physically. Those two big guards from Mount airy we're getting up filled and stepping and pushing the whole line to one side.. I mean they could play 10 times and it would be the same way in my opinion minus the whole first score. I don't think that these wheels would have scored. Because it wasn't just athletes it was physicality. I think they probably got that way for playing us playing Mitchell last year in the playoffs they had to learn to be more physical. So they can do it when they're focused and dialed in. I don't think they'll be unphysical the rest of the year.Ew should have looked much better against MA honestly. Simple tackles and assignments were missed over and over. Not taking anything away from MA..but EW was made to look way worse than they are.
Now when EW scored on first possession they did need a 3rd and 23 pass to keep drive going. They were very physical i agree. They had a few players i assume that hadnt played in some games. I did see the game. Deer in the headlights is what i saw after the 1st two scores for MA...open field tackles some one on one and it seemed they were afraid to tackle #5. I watched the game..and when you re watch the highlights..you could tell in several of them that EW wanted no parts of tackling him either. I understand being dominated on some plays..but 4 or 5 (1 )play tds for 70 or 80 yrds is just as much lack of effort( gave up) as it was physicality. We saw the exact same game. Before the game no one on this board would have predicted a 62-7 score....especially after EW drove the field like MA wasnt even on it the 1st series. Truthfully when EW seen how easily MA scored on their first play from scrimmage....fear set in...and all their tackling, physicality, and desire to win left...just like that..not bashing EW..but i saw them give up super early and concede defeat to live to play the next game. EW fans knew they were over matched by 28 pts at least..but not 70...
