is he definitely gone at the end of this year? Do you all think he's still a 1st round pick based on raw talent and athleticism?

I do not see his wanting to play behind Jones next year nor do I think K will start 2 point guards
with Cam,Barrett and Zion.
He is gone after 1 year.

1/26 Mock NBA draft has him going 19 th to Portland.
He would be good backup for Lilliard playing for a fast West Coast offense.
Do not see East Coast team taking him other than Toronto or maybe Washington.

Yeah I think he’s gone with Tre coming in. I’m assuming he’ll still be a first rounder based on his measurables and athleticism, in addition to his assist numbers this season.

Duval is gone. He won’t spend any time in the g league but will probably come off the bench his first two years in the league to work on his decision making and three point shooting.

Gone, if for not other reason than I don't think he wants to be at Duke another year. Not sure he is ready, but a lot of people aren't who go. And yeah, I think he would sit behind Tre.

I think he would benefit with another year in college. Heck, who wouldn't? I have no inside information on him and I could be big time wrong but I think he would have gone after HS if he could. I just think his sights are set on NBA.

He’s gone, he will be a great NBA point guard if he can become an average shooter.

Anyone else notice his shot improving? His ball has had such better rotation these last few weeks. Nope, nobody has noticed? Everyone continue to bash the freshman pg who is learning the job on the fly....

Who here has bashed him?

Do some go over the top in "bashing" Duval, yes. But it's not a secret that he has struggled in running the offense, especially in half court. I think he has been bad at kicking to a shooter when he penetrates, although he will pass occasionally to a big. He is very talented, yet sometimes has looked like the 6th grader with adhd at the ymca. Nothing against the kid, but his shot had nowhere to go but up.
He does seem like a descent teammate, and has been supportive when benched. I'm pulling for the kid to grasp the offense because when he's on, it's another weapon.

Some comments about Trevon from last night's game thread:

* Duval being Duval again. SMH
* Duval with these unnecessary turnovers early!!!
* Why Duval why?!
* Man duval is really frustrating.
* When Duval struggles, he really goes all out.
* At times watching Duval feels like I am watching a really good 6th grader who hasn’t quite learned how to stay under control...
* Duval has become very frustrating
* I'm just not sure if Duval is actually that much better than Goldwire.
* I agree Duval needs realed in big time IMO...he’s way to reckless and careless with the ball lately...it’s been going on now for some games...
* Idk, when that article came out about how bad of a shooter he was and that we need him to be more of a distributor, he spent the entire next game trying to prove the author wrong. He shot more in that game than any I can remember, and shot really really bad.

I believe he gets drafted mid to late first if he just maintains his current productivity. Name all the ball handling guards you'd rather have as an NBA GM: Trae Young and Collin Sexton are obviously better, but no one else really jumps out after that.

Kentucky's 6'6 guy Gilgeousesness Alexander isn't that good IMO.

There are some upperclassmen worth looking at: Kansas's Graham, ASU's Holder, and Nova's Brunson, but do those three really have much upside as scorers? Tony Carr at Penn State might be a sleeper.

I think this is a great year for Tricky Tre to get some guaranteed money. He's in way better position than Grayson was as a freshmen, and then Grayson probably missed his best draft window after his sophomore year. I'm extremely happy that Grayson came back and will graduate, but let's not pretend like he wouldn't trade places with Luke Kennard right now. Staying in college as a high profile player is just as much of a risk as declaring. There is no perfect formula. I say strike while the iron is hot. The word on Duval is that he's oozing potential. Get paid, son!

Thank you for serving my point up on a delicious platter. Look, I get frustrated by Duval at times, his turnovers can be maddening, along with his immature mistakes (fouled a shooter 4 times last night I believe.)

I just feel like the tide has turned, everybody is done with bashing Gary and has moved on to Tre. Tatum was the ultimate bash for like a 2 week stretch last year, then all of us who stood by him got the last laugh when he became our best player.

Duval is equally as important as every other starter (maybe more because he’s a PG) and I sense that others don’t have confidence in him. I do, he will get it done in March.

Where is that actually bashing the kid? It's just observations from many. Even our Mods and most on insider site have said same stuff. Do you realize the kid came in on a pedestal, so criticism is to be expected.

Good post - I guess coming into the year I was thinking Tre could be a top 10 pick, so perhaps I was way off in estimating his impact this year. I doubt he'd come back either, but I figured I'd see what y'all thought as I've miscalculated him enough already.

He's been playing with one good eye for most of his life; I'm almost certain that has effected his depth perception. Evidently the Duke medical staff has been working with him to regain a bit more functionality in his left eye... He's 10 for 26 from three in ACC play (38.5%); in the last 7 games, he's actually 8 for 14 from three. So maybe that eye is getting better after all.

Coach K has been sand bagging. Duval goes 30/30 in the tourney and we beat everyone's ***. Seriously though, if Duval starts shooting 40% on open threes, our offense is that much more deadly. We could just isolate Bagley on one side and run the triangle with Duval and Trent. Grayson and Carter are perfect weak side components of that formula.

Agreed. I have a great teaching gig. Classes on Tuesday & Thursday only (done at 2pm), a week off at Thanksgiving, a month off at Christmas, a week for spring break, and 3.5 months off over the summer. I play approximately 150 rounds of golf between late March and early November. Love it!

I am not bashing him, but K has given him noticeable sitdowns 2 of the last 3 games. He probably played much better 2nd half last nite because of the 1st half sitdown!

I believe the NBA will suit him better than college, but I hate his decision making in the half court sometimes. He will grow and put it all together, working out with guards like Kyrie and Tyus for a couple of off-seasons will help him.

Duvall is someone I expect to look much better than people expect next year in the nba.

The extended 3-point line gives him more space and he is unlikely to have 2 bigs in the paint.

Hart, I think Trevon's reaction to being 'benched' show what type of player and person he is. Many players would pout after that, but Trevon seems to understand that K is only interested in making him (and the team) the best that it can be. He's got a good attitude, and is a good teammate, and that makes a great combination.

I really don't think there is much doubt that Trevon will go pro after this year. He has really struggled at times, but you can see him getting a little better each game. He will be a great NBA point guard, and when he continues to let the game come to him, he will be a great Duke point guard.
We have only seen glimpses of his ability, and I believe the best is yet to come, so just be patient folks, and enjoy the ride!

Agree. Its only going to make him and the team better. Hey I hope the kid tears up the NBA, but what he does between now and April are of utmost importance to me.

Good moves by K in both of those games. Hey its not easy to bench a OAD for some coaching up. In the long run it will payoff for Duke and TD....
