Rumor is that Buchner, who got hurt early in the year, has been practicing and likely would play in the bowl game. ND is also apparently actively trying to a QB transfer for next year. Throw in commitments from a 4 star QB for next year and a 5 star for the following year, Pyne probably saw the writing on the wall.

Maybe the BC QB might rethink his leaving te imitation Irish now the BC doesn't seem to fit his needs
With Kelly now the LSU HC, Jurkovec might feel differently about ND and the unkempt promises he said Kelly made that caused him to leave South Bend .

Notre Dame might look at Phil as a good one year player that fills a position of need

Tell me how Pyne wouldnt be anything different that what we get now? Pyne was behind nfl lineman and had a strong run game. He wasnt asked to do as much as he would be asked to do here.

Jurkovec may have burned a few bridges with some of the things he said when he went out the door at ND. Further, he wasn't all that good this year getting benched. ND is probably looking for a better transfer option if they go that route.

He had 22 touchdowns and 6 interceptions vs. a Notre Dame schedule. Even with the drop in talent, he would at least be competent. I think Wimsatt can figure it out, but I don't think he's even close to Pine right now.

Jurkovec burned and detonated the ND bridge. He is not welcome back. ND is looking at Card and maybe Armstrong from UVA.

Do you think GS is looking to have an open competition at the QB position. I think he should but I have not gotten the sense he has been aggressively pursuing another experienced guy. No one with credentials is coming here to wait until GW either gets hurt or fails to make significant progress.

He should take a step back and let the new OC make the decision.

That's the only way a portal QB will look RU's way and Greg has to let that be known even before hiring one.
Gavin needs to have competition for the job and be told he will be given the same chance as the competition, to earn the starting role, no matter who is hired as OC.

Ha ha. Guess you haven’t paying any attention for 22 years.
Actually in his first year as RU's HC he seemed to have stepped back and let the OC decide.
Maybe you haven't been following RU FB as close or as long as you're implying .

What Schiano needs is someone with a good reputation and experience because an OC with little experience at the position might be influenced by what the HC is thinking instead of putting in who they feel should be the starters..

Hate to say it but these higher end portal guys will have zero interest in coming here.
Unless we provide them with:

The story in the Athletic (behind a pay wall, unfortunately) says that Pyne is transferring because he was told ND would seek a transfer QB in the portal.

You mean they didn’t promise the QB job to someone and not recruit another for two classes? Sounds like bad management

Pyne is a bit limited physically but is tough , smart and a great kid.

Rutgers would be a great fit for him and vice versa.

They will if the rich guys on this board step up and buy us some good players . That’s what any good fan will do. We have plenty of fans with second homes, only live in the best towns and wouldn’t even stoop to the level of buying an accord . So we got the funds to stop stinking

Greg is all in with GW and he will ride that until the end. He was never good at handling QB’s!

So I'm trying to imagine myself Drew Pyne and Greg is calling. If I were Drew, I would think, "great metropolitan area with plenty of opportunities. I'm very likely to beat out Gavin Winsatt for the starting job. But what weapons would I have in the offensive line and receiving corps? What indication is there that Rutgers is likely to run an offense that showcases my talents? I want to be a star -- who was the last quarterback at Rutgers to be a star?"
