NIL, the transfer portal and now seemingly blatant tampering with impunity, have gotten beyond insane. I can't imagine how stable you can keep a roster anymore. Can anyone really blame these kids? How much longer until this just becomes semi-pro and CFB turns into some sort of G-League type of operation. Would anyone spend hundreds of dollars to watch the Lincoln Corn Stalks, Tuscaloosa Tuskers or Columbus Nut Poisons play some sort of meaningless semi-pro game?

Mad props to Drake Maye. I would have took the $, lol.

Good read. I'm guessing one of those teams was Texas A$M.

Called it ahead of time, paying players will and is running college football….sad
Yup….even in the pros not everyone is a free agent. I loved watching the recruits develop over the years. Now it’s largely a very different team each year. Hard to be loyal to that.

Drastically changed it. Hasn’t destroyed it completely. NFL teams swap players and those guys shortly become your own to root for. Look how quickly we embraced Casey Thompson. It’s sad but that’s the world we live in. The flip side is that these guys are getting way more financial help than I did from my academic scholarship. I won’t begrudge them that.

Mack Brown should name the schools. He is probably retiring soon anyway.

Even if they name the schools, what does it matter, NCAA won’t do anything. Sucks that you have to re-receuit and probably restructure NIL or pay for play deals every year now for your best players or they’ll get poached in a heartbeat. It’s a snakepit out there and as a coach you better be willing to get in the mud and have the financial backings to play in this game going forward

An IRS audit when those boosters try to claim that as a legitimate ad/promotion expense for their business expense might chill this deal. Hate to say it but IMO the only thing that might rein this in is the IRS. ☹️☹️

I hear ya but name something that contracts, agents and lawyers get involved with that doesn’t turn to crap.

My kid did work on a class action lawsuit that just landed a 2 BILLION DOLLAR judgement. Yeah she got a nice Christmas bonus.

Hyperbole. Nobody from a fan perspective loves the change, but College football is bigger and better than ever. And will only grow from here.

I love the change and it was about 3 decades overdue

F the ncaa. Why should they make all the money for doing none of the work?

And cry me a river for these multi-million dollar coaches who can leave anytime they want now having to work harder

Lol virtue signaling and jealousy off the charts for some of you

This is America at its finest - a truly unregulated open market. Quit begging for more rules, it’s pathetic

how many posters begging for more regulation are self-described conservatives?

be honest

lol
I’ll raise my hand. Even conservatives recognize governments role in regulating graft and corruption. You’re confusing libertarianism with conservatism. Probably not a good topic for this board.

If you're waiting for the IRS to fix anything or provide a disincentive to cheating you'll still be waiting long after hell freezes over. The IRS might be the only large organization that is more ineffective and broken than the NCAA. I'm not exaggerating!

A CPA friend of mine once said “they’re incompetent boobs”. About 12 years ago I had a major health problem while working on my taxes and screwed something up. I was going to amend my return and he said. “They’re incompetent. Just take the gain the next year”. It was never questioned.

It is absolutely a legit marketing expense and the IRS is not going to flag it. As long as the player does something for the company it’s completely legal.

There’s verbiage that specifies what is considered normal expense. Paying a college kid millions of dollars to sign autographs or do a few radio spots is hardly a normal business expense. I’m not a CPA but I’m self employed and have read WAY too much of the tax code

I’ve been doing my own taxes for over 30 years. Started out with a freaking pencil, calculator and columned ledgers. Thank God for TurboTax. I’ve paid a CPA who used to work for a company we owned to review my taxes a couple of times and he couldn’t change anything. He said by the time you get your books in a form to give me there’s no reason to pay me 2 grand to file them.
