I had more confidence that last year's team could reach the Big 12 title game, but less confidence that it could beat Kansas. This year's squad seems less likely to advance that far, but more likely to defeat Kansas if it does.

Would love another crack at KU. They are pretenders

Pretenders? Sorry but I have to laugh out loud at that one. They are now 28-3 and they just won the Big 12 regular season title by four games. FOUR. think about that for a minute while keeping in mind how competitive this conference was this season.

They are certainly pretenders. They flirt with disaster every game, just not enough closers in this conference to finish them off. They are going down hard in the tournament.

I can't sit here with a straight face and act like they're the #1 team in the country.

Yes but I think you're missing the point about their close wins. And that is the fact that they don't beat themselves, very well coached and just a solid together-type team. It doesn't appear you're giving them enough credit. Whether they win the tourney (I wouldn't be surprised if they did not) or get knocked out early in the NCAA's, they're still a heckuva team.

I just don't see where you get pretenders from them when all they do is win. Close or not, who cares? That's the big difference between them and us. WVU beats themselves and KU doesn't. WVU should easily bet at least 27-4 right now but they're not because they don't take care of the ball like they should when it counted in those close losses.

Right now, if anyone is a pretender it's WVU if you think long and hard about it. What is WVU's longest winning streak this year? It's not much for a team that should have a better record and I believe, is better than last year's team in several ways.

I never called WVU a contender. We can certainly beat them in a Big XII title game if we get there considering we've outplayed them 3 of 4 halves this year and gave away a game in their building. If it came down to meeting Kansas or Kentucky, UNC, Villanova or even Duke I'll take another game with KU. I've always maintained KU feasts on programs that are a very clear step below the elite. KU is a very good program but hardly the Goliath they're made out to be.

9 wins this year 5 pts or less. #9 in Kenpom rankings. The entire Big XII collectively choked against KU this year IMO, they're not that good and will be exposed in the round of 32 or Sweet 16.

Personally, I would be ok if the Mountaineers flirted with disaster and yet won the game ............like Kansas has done. WV and all the other teams in the Big 12 will have their hands full with Kansas in the tourney.
