UK has historically been known for basketball thanks to Adolph Rupp. Five different basketball coaches have won NCAAT titles at UK. Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Smith and Cal. Can any other school match that? UCLA no. Indiana no. UConn no. Duke no. UNCheat no. Cheathawks no.
Whoever the new AD ends up being should do everything they can to try to keep UK basketball at an elite level. That could require some tough and unpopular decisions on various levels for different groups.
For a lot of fans football is actually their favorite sport. If given a choice between watching a good basketball or football game, I'd choose football most of the time. That said I don't think UK football will ever be on the same level as an Alabama, or Michigan or Texas. It just means more to them. Like basketball does for most UK fans. But there's nothing wrong with trying to achieve to get to that level in football. But I don't think UK should settle for being a bottom feeder in the SEC either. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to compete with USC, Mizzou, Miss St, Ole Miss, Vandy on a yearly basis. UK has been doing pretty well vs Florida in recent years, but lets see what happens now with Sumrall at FL.
