Does UK need a FB or BB minded AD?

FB is where the money is at, BB is what UK is known for. So, would you prefer a FB or BB leaning AD to follow Mitch?

This state has one crown jewel. 100 years of building the greatest basketball program in history. You want to just let the others have it?

Basketball 100%. And he also needs to win in both. But basketball is always non negotiable. What kind of person would want a football minded guy who’s going to focus away from basketball? It’s insane. My god how do some get to work in the morning….or get a job interview. This is Kentucky it ain’t hard!

A guy like Tom Jurich . Someone who can make good hires in both. A good AD can do both . Thinking a football minded ad would take away from basketball , or the other way around, would hurt the other sport is goofy. Get a guy or gal who knows what they're looking for in a leader.

A great starting point would be hiring an AD that doesn't look like this:

I love Basketball, but I love love love Football. All day long Football!
I agree a national championship or even a playoff game would be fun. But it’s always basketball. At Kentucky particularly. That sec money coming into football is because the basketball program allowed Kentucky to stay apart of the SEC.

If we had overall records in basketball like football we would be in the acc 35 years ago.

Even if football finds success under Stein and a new AD, KY has an established tradition and legacy in basketball. It would be a shame to throw away what's been built over the yrs.

We desperately need an AD who will go to drastic measures to ensure basketball stays blue blood status. We'll never be the all time winningest football school or have multiple titles. UK basketball can be brought back to the top w/o sacrificing football support but bball needs to be our AD's primary focus.

I doubt we could get him back, but Greg Byrne would be my choice. I fortunately I think we get Marc Hill. If we get Byrne, Oats may follow

We have to have an AD who can develop both revenue sports. I am hoping that Stein can build on what Stoops did here. As far as basketball goes, we need an AD who isn't afraid to make the hard choice to get the best coach and recruiter that the program can reel in. Mark Pope isn't that guy.

I lean heavily towards football, because winning in football brings in more just based on economy of scale. It's the revenue generator and needs to be fed. It takes money to make money and the AD needs to focus on football.

That said, having a great football program raises everything above tide level. I believe basketball can and will thrive and compete for championships even with this type of AD

Mitch was very late to the table enabling both sports.

I think it's fine to be "both" minded. I think you've got to realize what basketball is to Kentucky, and always prioritize it more than other SEC schools. But Kentucky football can be a far better program than it's been. And I don't want to slight it to hold it back.

Our all time greatest bb program needs help to regain or maintain that title. We need an AD whose first and foremost goal is to get our flagship program back on track. That doesn’t mean he or she has to be one dimensional just that the new AD will prioritize getting us back in the thick of it. Someone with charisma who can sell top flight coaches the job at UK. I think all UK fans are happy as long as long as our AD is doing their best to bring in coaches. Not waiting for your understudy to pluck your alumni. Barney would not take from the guys who worked for him. Honestly it isn’t about bb or fb slanted it’s about loving uk sports and always bringing in the best we can. Stein and pope were the two laziest hires in history especially when sumerall was on the board. So the real question is do you want a push over or someone who will fight for Uk no matter what. Maybe summerall goes to florida, but if barney had fired stoops sooner in season like most schools do we could have made a run at sumerall. Rick pitino could be AD and i would expect him to go hard for a guy like sumerall. Even if through so called “back channels” you find it’s a long shot still go with all your might. Show us you will go to hell and back for our top two programs but in this moment I would rather have a bb minded AD. We aren’t getting pat Riley but if we did hypothetically that dude would have fb coaches lined up to coach UK because he knows how to talent evaluate and he knows how to build a winning organization. Nevertheless there are others like pitino ( not advocating for him although he would win in everything) who are respected all throughout sports.

One last thing. We need an AD who sees that there’s a young pitino at Florida who is still possible to get. Golden is a blueblood guy. Right now he is the sec Hurley. Pope should be pressed to step aside and we need to go for golden with all we have. He’s exactly what UK needs. We are the Alabama of cbb and what is happening to our bb program needs a bold move to get us back to a top 5 programs. You make that guy the highest paid coach by a lot.

You mean a guy who steals money from the university? No thanks.

Kentucky needs a business minded AD that hires a GM for basketball, and helps all programs succeed and doesn't hamstring either program.

UK has historically been known for basketball thanks to Adolph Rupp. Five different basketball coaches have won NCAAT titles at UK. Rupp, Hall, Pitino, Smith and Cal. Can any other school match that? UCLA no. Indiana no. UConn no. Duke no. UNCheat no. Cheathawks no.

Whoever the new AD ends up being should do everything they can to try to keep UK basketball at an elite level. That could require some tough and unpopular decisions on various levels for different groups.

For a lot of fans football is actually their favorite sport. If given a choice between watching a good basketball or football game, I'd choose football most of the time. That said I don't think UK football will ever be on the same level as an Alabama, or Michigan or Texas. It just means more to them. Like basketball does for most UK fans. But there's nothing wrong with trying to achieve to get to that level in football. But I don't think UK should settle for being a bottom feeder in the SEC either. There's no reason we shouldn't be able to compete with USC, Mizzou, Miss St, Ole Miss, Vandy on a yearly basis. UK has been doing pretty well vs Florida in recent years, but lets see what happens now with Sumrall at FL.

Basketball. The university risks a significant chunk of the fanbase completely disengaging if we don't show a renewed commitment to excellence and success in basketball.

That said, I think a football AD could do a fine job and I love UKFB more than I'll ever love roundball. So, I guess I'm cool with either.

Whomever gets the position certainly can't frame contracts any worse than Mitch did.

It really doesn’t have to be either or. Need to put major resources into both, build and keep great programs. We don’t have to be divided between the two and should all support each sport.

Stop the drama, BBN. National search? Outsiders? Nah. Just crown Rachel Baker already.
  • Knows every UK secret since 2013. Dirt? She's got it all filed neatly.
  • Ex-NCAA enforcer turned compliance czar: zero scandals, zero excitement. Perfection.
  • SEC Exec Committee? She's basically royalty already. No learning curve needed.
  • Hubby at JMI? Conflict? Please—that's premium synergy and extra radio bucks. Genius.
  • Won't change a thing: same safe plays, same 3-6 win football, same "middle of the road" hoops. Comfort food for the soul.
Why chase bold when we can embrace the familiar insider pick? Stability over success!
