Does the B10 care that Rutgers is a complete afterthought? They brought Rutgers into the conference for NYC viewership. Given that nobody in NY/NJ cares about Rutgers are there ever consequences for Rutgers' lack of investment/success?

It could very well when new tv contracts come up. In the event that things like cord cutting continue to hurt the sports programming (hasn’t happened too much yet but there are cracks appearing in sports ratings). And if the pie starts to shrink. Don’t think for a second the BIG won’t unload Rutgers if we arent holding our weight. We’re not a charity. If we start costing the schools money they will boot us.

every league has bottom feeders, they do not care as long as the tv sets are still in the market

agreed. But at some point in the future if there is significant cord cutting and sports leagues start to take a hit Rutgers could be in trouble. It’s not unthinkable.

Our area is chock full of Big Ten alumni. The conference will be patient with us. Remember, one of the keys to becoming Big Ten is AAU membership. The agreement to take us in the conference hinges on a great deal more than the performance of our football team. However, it will be much better for the conference to have us be competitive.

They wanted the NYC market for all the PSU, UM alums that live and work on NYC. Rutgers just happens to be the closest school.

It will help from a public perception standpoint if our hoops team gets its act together. After all, the B1G has put up with Indiana and Illinois football for generations.

The B1G let Northwestern be worse than we will ever be for decades and at the time they were sitting in their largest and most important market, what makes anybody think that the B1G cares that we stink is beyond me. And then you have the fools that think the B1G is going to kick us out because we stink, never happening, again, look at Northwestern. For all of you negatoids who are so focused on our inferior facilities, Gary Barnett brought Northwestern to a Rose Bowl with the worst facilities in the B1G. We will find our own Gary Barnett at some point, people need to pull themselves together and get over this irrational obsession with a former coach who is NEVER coming back.

This, or the next set of television contract negotiations will be the driver.

Conference realignments, and certainly alternative television distribution methods.

There are haves, and have nots, and surprises on both lists.

The B1G and ESPN largely will not be able to stop it, They can’t compete with new players emerging that have billions in cash to drove the process.

New players to the distribution negotiations, not new players as in newer entities.
