Can Caleb keep him him contained? He’s the whole package.

Also I like how Pike switched up the D to Zone against MSU, he’s gotta do the same tomorrow. Keep them off balance.

Yeah, I like Ron on Liddell. The next question is who does Cliff guard? I dont want to see him chasing outside the paint? Would be good for us (though I wouldn’t bet on it) if when Lidell is in OSU has another strictly interior player. I think that as a help defender, Cliff could be a nightmare for Lidell. Man to man, he’d get bullied and into foul trouble.

Liddell can score 30 from the middle of our zone. He’s almost automatic from inside the lane.

Caleb doesn't have the beef to handle Lidell inside I don't think. He will guard their best perimeter player

Harper Mag and Hyatt are the 3 more perimeter players who have at least some shot of battling the power of Lidell and the OSU bigs at the 4 this game

Cliff and Dean obviously will be getting their minutes

Might actually see some Agee this game...

Try to do the best we can inside and limit their 3s and offensive rebounds I would guess is the gameplan

Defensively...
Cliff on Zed
RHJ on Liddell
Caleb on Branham
Paul on Ahrens
Geo on Wheeler
To start
Agreed to start. Ron will likely have to stay up on him and play the defense he used to play last year and the year before. Key will try and get Cliff buried deep and that is trouble , Cliff has to deny that post entry and then get the defensive board. Like last game need everyone getting 4-5 rebounds each especially the guards. Paul cannot play too much help defense and must stay on Ahrens, as he has been in a shooting slump but hit 3 threes last game against Maryland. We hold him in check we will be okay.

Worried that Ron is gonna expend a lot of energy chasing Liddell around then… could affect his O….that’s why I thought Caleb with some Zone, Box and 1 junk D

Also, worried about foul trouble. He draws a lot of contact averaging 6.6 FT attempts a game and likely some non shooting fouls as well.

It seems like our bigs were always in foul trouble against OSU

Believe RU will use multiple people to try and
slow him down switching defenders regularly. He is very adept at passing out of the double
team and hitting the open man. Think our game plan should be try and stop the three and he will score what he scores. He had multiple open three point looks in his last game and made the open looks. A lot of their sets are four guards and Liddell.

Mag should guard him a lot and use up all 5 fouls on him. Need to wear Liddell down so at the end of the game he’s gassed.

Remember the game of two years ago at OSU. Myles had two fouls in like 3 minutes and hardly played at all getting 5 fouls. Young was the guy who killed us inside. He also fouled Jacob driving to the basket on a very hard foul where he fell on his hip and could not return when we were up with about 5 minutes to play. I think Young has since had an injury and doesn't play quite as many minutes but he still is a hard nosed rebounder and a tough guy on the inside. We need to score early and get the crowd really going nuts. We must be relentless the entire game once again just like we were against Michigan State.

Try to keep him on the perimeter. If he shoots 7-10 or 10-13 on two-pointers we're screwed. (Those were his numbers against Wisconsin and Maryland, so he's plenty capable).

If we can keep him to something like 5-9 or 4-7 inside then I'll take my chances giving up 5 or 6 three pointers. If he hits 3 or 4 of them, well, we're probably gonna lose but I can live with it. He's a good three point shooter so that's definitely possible. There just aren't any good options with him.

Harper guarding Liddell could lead to early foul trouble. He is Rutgers most consistent double digit scorer and needs to be on the court to offset Liddell points.Defense always is important but against top tier opponents Rutgers must be able to match baskets and avoid long scoring droughts. The crowd needs to be loud on every Ohio State possession.

Get off to a good start
Hurt them inside early with a cliff dunk then a couple of threes

This takes the early pressure off and the team can play relaxed and ready

A rough start and we could be looking at a Maryland type game

Or make him beat us and shut everyone else down. He's unlikely to go for 55.

I don’t think it matters. Liddell is going to get his points and as usual, Young will have a good game against us.

We need our guards to outplay theirs. That’s the key in this one. They are on the road relying on a frosh (albeit a good one) going up against our veterans. They have Wheeler (but our guards are better than him - we need them to play like it).

Thats the same strategy you have to use against Illinois; let Cockburn get his 35 points but guard the perimeter s o its not a 3 fest; thats how we beat Purdue and that is why we got crushed against Illinois the first time; we doubled the ball too much and they just passed it out for 3 point shots all night and they have very good 3 point shooters

This. We got crushed trying to double Cofi, and we learned our lesson and allowed Purdue's bigs to score 2s while we defended their perimeter.

Same game plan tonight. OSU has SIX different guys who can kill you from beyond the arc, and we need to defend the perimeter. If that means Liddell and Key get 2s in the paint, so be it.
