Western Albermarle wins state title

Western Albermarle shot a second-round 306 to win the 2003 Group AA state golf championships held at Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. The Warriors rallied to beat Monticello by one stroke. Jamestown finished third, four strokes back.

Individually, Jamestown's Garrison Fowler earned state medalist honors, outdueling William Byrd's William Thompson on the second playoff hole.

Western Albemarle and Monticello HS close all season

Western and Monticello have been neck and neck all season. Western won the district by one stroke and the region by 3. Congratulations to two good teams from central Virginia.
