Does anybody else hate bubble team talk?

It grates on me so much hearing these people rattle on about how unfair it is for these poor poor teams that went 18-14 with the 200th Strength of schedule not getting in.

How about, if you want in, win more games? If they had went undefeated, they'd be in. Otherwise, too bad.

Just curious if anybody else dislikes it all.

I think your opinion is shared by most fans of big/successful programs. We wouldn't mind if the Tournament was slimmed down to 32. But the fact is qualifying is a major accomplishment for some/many schools and that is a big part of the folklore of the NCAA Tournament.

I do recognize the sillyness of current day bubble teams since they have very little chance of winning the entire thing. But they can play spoiler.

That's pretty easy to say as a Duke fan.

Something tells me if you were a grad of Middle Tennessee or St. Mary's tonight the tune you're singing would sound a lot different. What about Oklahoma State? They beat Kansas twice, Texas Tech and won in Morgantown over West Virginia. That's four wins over the top three in the Big 12 and two of them on the road. Meanwhile, the Oklahoma Sooners finished the season ninth in a 10-team league and won two games the last six weeks. They're still playing.

I personally love the bubble talk. I’m with Dukiejay, Ok State should be pissed. As should USC who finished second in the pac12 regular season and tournament.

It's easy to say, because it's a fact of life. Leave no doubt. Sure I'm a duke fan. I've also had to endure Duke football. So

If there were no interest in bubble talk, selection Sunday would be pretty boring. I get that a lot of teams don’t have a real gripe but some teams do. Winning more games is a solution. OK state won enough quality games that’s for sure. If UNC can get a two seed because they beat a lot of quality teams then that argument should apply to Oklahoma state for its quality wins.

The Selection Committee is all about quality wins. But it's such a huge disservice to mid-majors. I would never, never put Syracuse or Oklahoma in over Middle Tennessee or Saint Mary's. Everyone always quips back, "Well, don't schedule cupcakes all season." If we do some pretty simple math, it's obvious that the margin for error is so razor thin for these mid-majors. If your typical D1 school plays 13 games out-of-conference, and you want games against the top 50 programs, that means there are only 650 OOC games available against top 50 teams. 650/351= 1.852. The average D1 school is only going to get 2 top 50 games out of conference. You can't build a resume on that. Having a single bad loss in the conference can be completely derailing for a team's resume.

Saint Mary's won their only top 50 game OOC against New Mexico State. They beat Gonzaga and BYU on the road, went 16-2 in the conference.... they went 2-1 against the top 50 and 4-3 against the top 100. Not crazy impressive, but dang they went 28 and 5. I'd rather have a team like that, especially with a player of the caliber of Jock Landale, than another P5 school with 13 losses... It's only going to get worse when conferences start going to 20-game seasons. Major conferences will soon have an even lager disparity in the strength of schedule. Now, let's look at how several at-large bids did in Quad 1 Games:

Ohio State: 3-5
Seton Hall: 4-8
TCU: 4-8
Creighton: 2-9
UCLA: 3-7
Kansas State: 4-9
Texas: 6-11
Syracuse: 4-8
Butler: 4-10

Yes, they inevitably have more quality wins. But, look at all those losses they're piling up. The winning percentage against quality teams is what is concerning to me.

I'd rather see mid majors who had great seasons get in than P5's that were under .500 in their own conference. This year the committee sent a bad message to the mid majors by taking teams like OU, Cuse and Bama over St Mary's, MTSt or Vermont. As a fan i want to see those mids play the big boys because they have proved in the past they can beat them. No interest in some of the games which have the #7 team in one conference vs the #4 or 5 in another....give me them vs a mid major and i'm watching and routing for the underdog.
