Divisions need to end.

For real this year is shaping out to be one of the most lopsided gaps between the East/West. The SEC has been lucky to have at least Georgia in the East of that conference. The B1G is not so lucky. That conference title game is gonna be terrible, just like last year.

I don’t think you’re going to see an end of divisions. I think you’re going to see the advent of the pods once we get to 16 teams

OSU, PSU, Mich, MSU and improved Rutgers team in the East. Hell Rutgers would challenge for the West title if they were here. I don't know what the solution is but the divisions are horribly unbalanced

Yeah, it's really bad now. The balance - or lack of it - is beyond comical. I They were even slamming it on ESPN a few days ago and I believe the conference will have no choice but to change it after this year.

I agree. Just put them all in one big devision and let the two with the best records play for the title.

Being in such a weak division is one of our biggest selling points!

Why do the divisions need to be balanced?
Would you be asking this if you were an MSU or PSU fan and having to watch midgets like Wisconsin and Iowa get to play in the B1G championship every year? And in one game anything can happen although the East is 8-0 in B1G championship games since they went to the format.

Sure, PSU and MSU already had their shot against whoever won the East. If I'm them I would think if I won the East it should be an easy task to win the title.

Pods, that's the way going forward.

Asking serious question, is the east being so much better directly related to geographical position to more talent? Strictly better coaching, better schools? Or a combination of it all?

The point is that a conference championship game should feature the2 best teams - or close to it as much as possible - and all of the power has been in the East since they started this division stuff 8 years ago. The East is 8-0 in championship games. End of story - records don't lie

I disagree that a goal of the championship should feature the two best teams. What if they just played the week before and already settled it?

If that were the case teams from the East would have been playing each other in the championship for about 8 of the past 10 years.

I think that definitely plays a key role. The majority of the population is cutoff at the Illinois border. More people equates to more talented players. What are the powerhouse high school football programs in Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin?

Outside of what Nebraska used to be, who is considered a powerhouse program? Minnesota was good in the 60's. Iowa is a solid program, Wisconsin is slightly above them. Neither recruits above the 30's. When USC, UCLA, and probably Oregon, and Washington join, these divisions are gonna go the way of VHS tapes. Like others have said, pods make the most sense. Nebraska will most likely be paired with Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Purdue.

Definately recruiting territory is one aspect, as is the coaching and historical traditions at the respective schools. That said, things tend to change over time and the schools in the west, most prominantly Nebraska, are underperforming.

Purdue will be in a pod with Indiana, take that one to the bank..

They’ve been the reason why the conference made up cross divisions rivalry games..

I think when USC and UCLA are added, divisions will be dumped. Every team will have maybe two opponents they play every year to preserve games like Nebraska vs Iowa. Use tie-breakers to determine the top two teams for a conference championship game.

Depends on how many the conference adds before it is all said and done..

Nebraska
Minnesota
Whisky
Ioway
These 4 most likely will be playing each other every year..

Hmm: 3 protected rivals seems like one too many but I am only guessing.

There has been speculation that Kansas may be an option. I doubt that one. But if it were to happen, would Kansas key in as a rival to Nebraska? The other one I've heard speculation, and I have no sources, so take it with a grain of salt, is Colorado. I know that would be a good rivalry.

I think the Big Ten will stand pat unless ND decides to join the pack. Then pick one team to balance out the Irish. Some major state university in a football region; like UNC.

Any chance we get kicked out of the B1G for complete incompetence in both of the 2 biggest sports ? It might be better for us to go back to a watered down Big 12.

Getting $100 million per year in the B1G vs making chump change in the Big 12. No, we aren't going to do anything to get ourselves kicked out. If they kick us out for not being competitive, then they would also have to kick out teams like Northwestern, Rutgers, and Maryland for not being competitive.

By the time they enter the league they may be a juggernaut. Unless Nebraska raises to a level not seen since the early 2000's, you would be trading that annual Ohio State beat down to a USC one. At least you could visit Disneyland to raise your spirits I guess.

And that is entirely our (NU) fault. The B1G set it up for us to be a big boy in the conference. We simply have not lived up to that. I hope that Trev gets the right hire this time.
