This is a risk because of eligibility! I don’t like this at all!
I don’t like the sound of that at all. With all of the good players in the portal, why would he have to have a zoom meeting with a player like him that possibly won’t be eligible
Pope when it comes to signing a player that can’t potentially play due to eligibility, (the same eligibility that Pope has verbally scorned in a public press conference)or a player coming off an injury. Built in excuses baby.
So far it looks like we are prioritizing two unique traits:
Major eligibility hurdles
Coming off of major injuries

Bonus points if they're majorly injured, or have a history of being that way.
You know I like to give benefits of the doubt a lot but CMP had horrific injury issues with butler who played valiantly when able but that alone should have Pope staying far away from injury issues, now combine that with Jalen Lowe playing like 30 minutes of basketball all year, and now targeting someone who may not be eligible I'm starting to really question the thought there are loads of healthy eligible PG options why are we still even entertaining crap like this.
If he goes to SMU he will be a fantastic player on an irrelevant team. I'd much rather have Dedan, Zoom, or even that Bojack Horseman from Butler
Pope is better at stringing his few supporters that he has left along. So many people saying “I believe” I wish it were that easy. I’m sure every coach that has failed wanted it to work: does anyone think Kenny Payne sucked on purpose. Pope is in a PR role now to keep drawing that check. 
I'd like to see Pope drop Dink Pate and concentrate on guys like Devin Vanterpool, Juke Harris, Stefan Vaaks, Terrence Hill, and Milan Momcilovic. I'd even rather have Neoklis Avdalas or F. Bizjack - and I've got concerns about both of those.
Pope and his staff would have a 1000x better idea about Pate vs the examples I gave, and I've only seen video and high lights, but I just don't really want Pate and never have.

Would be a nightmare scenario pickup for me. Traffic cone on defense and a shot chucker on offense. Would take Kentucky fans about 10 games to hate him

Where did you get those numbers? There aren't even 500 in the G League, those are just made up stats

Boy.. it doesnt sound incorrect. Going after a guard that has an injury after the last two years of injured guards, is absolutely wild. Id like to think Pope wouldn't resort to excuses and bailouts.. but who knows.
You know, coaches still have to audition not for the jobs they move up for, but the jobs they move down for as well. Pope knoes he could be gone next year.. hes gonna try and do what it takes to save his own career as well.

Well he’s next level bad even for the G league. I actually forgot to add both the tip-off tourney and reg season games for defensive rating. He actually comes in at 488th in that stat
