That calling a black guy boy was racist.
I signed my first paycheck "hey boy" hey boy get that shovel, hey boy , grind that Weld, hey boy, get us a beer ....is there anything that's not considered racist

Boy is a well established racist term. Grown male slaves were called boy. After slavery even into this century people will still call black men boy "to put them in their place." I've seen it first hand. If you've not lived in Dixie its harder to understand. Seeing it for myself it was shocking.

I have heard it a couple ways. it can be a derogatory term and I have seen it used as a general term. When I played baseball, every member of the team was effectively named boy and it wasnt just our team that did it. I think like most things the intent matters.

Yes intent can go along way...being in construction & working all over the eastern U.S I have black buddies & we tell some jokes that the main stream would just sh$t themselves over ..

I found out when I was working at the Virginia museum of fine arts that saying " yes ma'am " was racist....
