the other evening I decided to rewatch the 95 Nebraska, Colorado game, during the game they mentioned that the big 8 championship has been decided between Nebraska and Colorado for the last 8 years. It got me to thinking did the big 12 save Oklahoma? I was surprised they were down for that long. Just curious what everyone else thinks

Not sure i would go that far. I think they had a good ad that got them through their rough patch with a good coaching hire after 3 failures.

Sound familiar? At least they had an excuse. Ours was self inflicted

Think thats when they had schoolies took away by ncaa and couldnt play in some bowls ,which hurt them and helped huskers recruiting.

Bob Stoops, Mike Stoops, Mike Leach, Mark Mangino, Brent Venables, etc. saved OU football. They had one hell of a coaching staff to start the Stoops era.

But the question is does bob stoops go to OU if there is no big 12 if the big 8 remains intact. A lot of things to think about, that's why I asked the question.

I think he does. OU was a better job than being DC at Florida although Florida was in a very good position at the time.

I'm pretty sure any first time head coach who was previously Florida's and Kstate's DC would have been more than happy to take one of the biggest jobs in college football regardless of conference expansion happening at the time. Bob Stoops saved OU because he was a good coach and brought in a great staff. Not sure how the Big8 expanding made any difference.

Blake left a far more talented roster than smilin mike tho
I thought we liked mike during recruiting season?

Or does talent not materialize for a year or on campus(except for the Martinez’s of the world)?

The recruits Smilin' Mike Riley recruited are exactly like he was. People who do not fit for Nebraska. Mike Riley is the reason why our new slogan in Nebraska could be right after all. Nebraska its not for everyone!

Yes...that is stating the obvious. However, during the 'recruiting season' in those years, big swaths of the fan base were pretty lathered up. As a generality, we're a pretty star struck and insulated fan base. Nothing really wrong with it as your right, it's not for everyone. Sometimes it just makes for an easy target....especially when talking about *rankings and being boisterous about things that have yet to happen. It's rinse and repeat in many respects..
