I know it's early, but after two games, it doesn't look like a whole lot has changed for him. I feel bad for the kid. I try to keep up with guys that transfer from Duke. As far as i can remember, it doesn't really seem to work out great for the guys that do.

Honestly, I don't feel bad for the kid at all. Maybe his uncle soured my opinion of the kid, but it seemed like he thought he should be the focus of our team even though he still needed a lot of work. I wish him the best of luck, but he now plays for another team and I couldn't really care less about how he's playing. From things I've heard on this forum and from his family on twitter, it sounded like his family was a bunch of un-needed stress on our coaching staff. If that was the case, I'm glad he's with another team now.

As for transfers, most have gone on to have quiet careers with the exception of a few kids like Semi, Burgess, etc.

Duvall seems to be excelling in the role that Thornton would have had if he stayed at Duke. (Different style players but same thing asked. Run the team) Everyone has to do what they feel is best for themselves. Hope it works out for him.

.

Yeah I thought it was more his family that thought that way, not necessarily Derryck himself. In any case, I feel bad for him that his family is the way they are. You can't choose your family.

34 minutes combined in two games and only 2 assists?

I hope the kid can right his personal ship.

It was. Derryck hasn't said anything negative about Duke (to my knowledge) and even attended the banquet even though he knew he was leaving. I have respect for him, not his handlers, who could have did this in a whole different way.

I'm looking to keep up with Chase Jeter as well when he plays next season. He was one of my favorite recruits and I really think he's going to crush it on the defensive end. I saw his blocking and rebounding abilities in the few minutes he played. He was just so young.

Don’t feel bad for him whatsoever. After the stunt his family pulled bad mouthing Duke, it’s hard for me to feel sorry for him.

I just read on one of the national sports sites that Derrick Thornton is a possible "National Sixth Man Of The Year Award" contender. Is there really such an award and how could any sports news outlet assume or even think that?

I wish the kid the best. He’s probably better off without Duke and Duke is better off without him. It’s a win-win.

It will be interesting to monitor his status throughout the season. If he wasn’t happy playing 26 minutes/game at Duke as a true freshman, I can’t imagine he’s going to do backflips if he plays less as a third-year players for a program like USC.
