Anxious to hear about team depth this year. Are we more than 1 or 2 deep at each position? Would like for coaches to talk that at multiple positions we are a solid 3 and 4 deep with little drop off. When we were winning that was the case.

We had a national championship appearance in a season .where Wilson Thomas was our top WR and I don't think I can remember at this late hour another WR on that team.

The wall of 10,000 immortals even in years we were pretty good was always a myth.

At QB especially we were never more than two deep even during the height of our power. Monte Christo was pretty fortunate that he played behind one of the best lines NCAAFB has ever fielded

We certainly have positions where we are deep right now. Rb for sure although a good bit of our depth across the board is measured in potential.

We're struggling to find a starting secondary but the DL is also very deep

How dare you not remember Troy Hassebroek.

Lol the only reason I remember Wilson is I went to school with that guy.

I remember after he got his husker offer brother Haynes walking the halls trying to shuffle him into class so he'd keep his grades up and qualify.

I looked up Troy's stats. No catches in 2001. Had 7 his last year in 2002. John Gibson was #2 WR in 01. Man, crouch was good to carry that team to the title game.

I think North had one of the top defenses in class A Crouch's senior year at Millard (we had Wilson Thomas on that D and a pretty good RB too) and Millard beat us 63-7 in the first round of State.

That guy was untackleable

Eh I still say CB. We don't even have a starting two...let alone a two deep on each side.
Fair enough. I guess my personal thoughts is I’m not expecting our defense to be great, carry the team, or really be anything more than maybe average.

So my thought is we are going to need our offense to out score the opponent to win. If we lose either of our starting OTs, I think our offense is going to be in trouble.

Oh yah from that angle for sure. People including SSO think the Defense might have to carry this team at times which is a scary thought. We do not have a secondary right now and it honestly would be a minor miracle if they played even average this year

Don't get me wrong I enjoy the theoretical nature of these threads...

But honestly these threads are why people think nebraska fans are stuck in the 90s. Frost has been here a whole ten minutes and people are already asking for some sort of reassurance that we might be getting close too the three or four deep across the board standard with little drop off when that wasn't even really that true for most positions on the 90s teams.

I'd say give the man a few years or if we're being down right unreasonable...at least two before we expect any modicum of a three deep

I worry about OT and CB. But since my primary hope is to see us return to playing solid defense (a good defense keeps you in any game) I worry most about our corners. They really, really sucked last year. And unlike safety, there is very little infusion of new blood that can add real depth other than maybe one true freshman.

I think the discussion about depth and depth charts are pretty meaningless in the bigger picture. The reason I say that is it can look pretty good - pick a group - "oh, we have lots of talent and people at LB so that is good and we are really stacked." Well, it may mean that or it may mean they are all bunched together with no clear cut leader. Lots of teams have depth and numbers but it is the quality that makes it work, not numbers. So given the opportunity would you want 4 DL's all about the same or one really great one and 3 so-so behind him? Think there are lots of ways to look at this big picture.

I want Clemson’s 4 DL

IMO the secondary won't be as bad as people think and the offense won't be as good as people think. As many have said before, if we could put some QBs on their backs it sure would help the DBs look a lot better.

Overall depth is probably improved if you just step back and look at how much roster turnover there has been since the end of last year. There are a lot of guys who weren't on campus in December who will be on the 2-deep this year. Many of them starting.

On the offensive side of the ball, I agree.

There will be probably 4 maybe 5 new players on the defensive side of the ball that could be on the 2 deep but not starting (Neal, Honas, Dixon, W. Jackson. I see a scenario where all 11 starters on defense were on the roster last year.

Bending thought the same about the starters on D, although Neal may end up playing quite a bit if Williams can’t stay healthy.
