I keep hearing from OM fans that these two are renowned, “elite” recruiters. Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but when did that happen? I don’t remember those guys ever being considered among our 2-3 best recruiters on staff when they were here.

Players liked T Buck a lot. They both did solid jobs while they were here. But I would never qualify either as great recruiters. Leach had an opportunity to retain both, and he said thanks but no thanks.

Good recruiters get bumped up to the next level because of the network.

Anyone claiming either is an “elite” recruiter is just allowing fandom to take over. There’s just not enough evidence to support that. I think both will be good recruiters, because they seem like they relate well to the kids. But, I think both were hired mostly to keep inroads in MS, along with Derrick Nix. I think Kiffin is counting on Partridge, Durkin, Kevin Smith and Blake Gideon to be his top 4 recruiters.

I thought Deke Adams did a good job coaching the DL last year. He did not have any experience at all & appeared to make steady progress over the course of the year and were adequate late in the year against good competition. He is well liked by the Mississippi High School & JUCO Coaches and has connections. He has the potential to be very good recruiting, but at best the verdict is out on his recruiting ability. He is a very like-able guy though.

T-Buck just never lived up to the hype in my opinion & I fear that he built loyalty to himself personally with his players as opposed loyalty to MSU (see Jarrian Jones). We did not sign a truly elite cornerback recruit during his tenure (Jones was really signed as a Safety if he is elite). T-Buck does probably have an eye for talent level at CB especially those that are somewhat under-rated like Martin Emerson & maybe Greg Brooks.

OLE MISS IS GONNA OLE MISS. Some things never change. It is all about the narrative with those guys, reality be damned.

I know T Buck knows a lot of Florida coaches. Maybe he was perceived as great because of the amount of talent In the state. He gets 3 or 4 higher rated guys that have us on a top 10 then the perception is he is elite when in reality the recruit is only paying lip service.

I liked having T-Buck on the staff. He is a solid coach, but not elite. If he were elite Alabama would have poached him a long time ago. I would wish lots of success if he wasn't at Ole Miss. I think he was solid at State and will be the same at Ole Miss. He has an eye for taking lightly recruited players and making them serviceable, which is the type of coach that both schools need.

I don’t know where you got that he had no experience. Before state he had been at South Carolina, North Carolina, ECU, and Memphis. He’s one I would have liked to hold on to. Good coach and from Meridian. I think given time he would have been a good in-state recruiter.
