More difficult schedule this year, but Diaco was switching from 4-3 to 3-4. Either way, someone needs to investigate how Iowa is legally able to have two of their ex-players on their payroll.

Aside from talent, the constant blitzing leaving no one to account for Bush’s running was idiotic. Bush simply waited for the LBs to commit and then chose his running lane - over and over again. The calls were crap - if you keep Bush boxed he is neutered.

You can't just say "more difficult schedule"...that makes all the difference. And you have to take the end of 2017 compared to the end of 2018...we had the worst defense in the nation the last 4 games...against mediocre offenses. That exact same personnel was dumped into Chins lap. So you have to compare 56 ppg to 35 ppg...now if we give up 56 to Michigan state and Iowa you have a point. If we give up 30 you don't. We aren't good, we aren't even mediocre...but our 2008 defense was comparable when we played equal competition(Bo got to play 3 non-power 5 teams), but gave up 34 ppg against power 5 opponents. And we have the two weakest offenses to go. Might break our 30 ppg streak.

I really hope it's a case of NU simply not having enough of the type of players needed to run the 3-4.

I'm not sure how to interpret Frost's comments about the defense. He seemed to concede that his defenses are going to give up a bunch of yards and points. His approach seems to be to score a ton of points and have the defense get stops via turnovers. Which means a lot of games like what we saw yesterday.
