It’s been painful to watch from a defensive perspective. We continue to struggle with an average or better big man. Our guards have their feet in cement.

Our perimeter defense is the main reason we could NEVER play 4 guards and Oscar. TyTy is still not back 100% on the defensive end. his lateral movement is not back to where it was pre-injury. A lot of those drives were against him or Mintz. Our rotations were a step behind tonight also.

Toppin is a MUCH better defender than Brooks. Oscar also struggles with his hedges. He commits too soon on drives which makes it harder to rotate quick enough.

We looked MUCH better before Wheeler and TyTy were injured. Hopefully another week will help.

1 more game then they get the better part of 5 days to rest their legs. Let's get rested and healthy and see what happens once the SECT starts. The timing goes hand in hand with having to have played without Wheeler and Washington for a couple of games. At least that's my hope.

If it isn't better we will be short lived in tourn.

Noticed on KP our defense has gone from 20 to 23 after tonight game. You don't go far in tourn with that bad of nos.

Arkansas and Ole Miss are the 2 QUICKEST teams we have played all year. We are not as quick as either of them. Not even close …

I have to agree with the op; you just can't let a team like Ole Miss to shoot 50% from the field
and nearly 39% from 3 point range...unless you are causing an insane amount of
turnovers. And we're not doing that either.

Ole Miss always plays us tough. I remember in 2015 they should have beaten us.
But this is not what they did but what we failed to do on defense. Cal always had good defense by now. Wonder why not this yr? You can't just out score them. Example: Iowa found that out last yr.

Never understood why some people seem to take personal offense at any criticism of UK’s play.
Most of us played and know the game.
I often mute the TV because some announcers are clueless.

Our defense currently isn't what it was prior to Ty and Wheelers injuries. We can get better no doubt.I think we will,we just have to get 100% healthy and focused.
We are good on defense but for a deep run we have to get better.

Ole Miss shot 50% and only had 9 turnovers.
For the season they're averaging 14 turnovers and shooting 43%.

Tonight’s defense was definitely subpar. I was disappointed in our effort on the defensive end tonight. Poor shot contests and worse stopping dribble penetration.

I don’t know whether to be concerned or write it off as well laying lackadaisical against a bad opponent on senior night.

Defense has definitely left a lot to be desired the last few games. Guards are able to get into the lane with dribble penetration with rotations being late. Giving up too many offensive rebounds. They have some things to work on over the next week.

I agree about the defense. I was disappointed tonight.

I think it will be fine. Our defense was elite going into the UT game. Then we lost Tyty and Wheeler. They're still shaking off some rust.

I also think it's hard to play elite defense in a game you know you're going to win--coming off several battles in a row.

I'll be a lot more worried if the defense looks like this Saturday @ Florida.

I don’t know but maybe it was planned to just out talent tonight and not get hurt. Idk. It’s me just hoping that the focus was just to win and save legs and stay on the path of getting fully healthy

There aren't any great defenders on this team. When we're good defensively it's more about the sum being greater than the individual parts. Effort and smarts make the difference, and if everyone isn't playing hard, it's obvious.

To me, the biggest issue the last two games has been the effort of Wheeler and Toppin on the defensive end. It's just not there right now and it's leading to some pretty serious breakdowns.

We won, led a but 40 seconds, undefeated at home.....to name a few.
We did win but it was against Ole Miss. Play defense like that against a top 25 team and we are going home. It's March and you can't have repeated breakdowns on defense and keep advancing. We are now up to 10 games where an opposing guard has went for at least 20 points and 4 of those games they went for over 30. Everyone knows the tournament is about guard play and if ours don't start guarding someone it could be a shorter tournament than we all want.

Pretty much every team switches until they find their mismatch...a weakness exposed by constantly playing one type of defense and allowing other teams to prepare for that and that alone.
