Hope you are right. That’s means unlike last year, Pike gets a serviceable backup 5 from the portal. He’s our 4, book it
May not matter if he is 4, 5, 3 or whatever. Pikiell is following the current trend of "positionless" in basketball. The Golden State Warriors have played most of the season with just one 5 and sometimes have their 2 play the five, though a majority of the time it is their four playing the 5 when the 5 is sitting. He’s our 4, book it
It matters bc if he plays the 4 we have no backup 5. That's why he is likely the backup 5... unless we land another 5 who is better in the portalMay not matter if he is 4, 5, 3 or whatever. That was my point. Warriors have no backup 5. They slide 3s and 4s to temp play there. Rutgers will have Reiber and Mag and possibly McConnell if he returns in that way.It matters bc if he plays the 4 we have no backup 5. Just because he slides to the 5 for the 10 or so minutes that Cliff sits does not mean he also can’t play 10 minutes with Cliff on the floor. Unless Mag or Hyatt really improve on offense, he’s the best offensive choice so at minimum you’d expect to see a small amount of offense / defense switch stuff. Can he defend a 4? That’s the question. It matters bc if he plays the 4 we have no backup 5. That's why he is likely the backup 5... unless we land another 5 who is better in the portal
It's possible he gets some minutes at the 4 but he doesn't fit the mold of what Pike has played at the 4 for years and years here. The questions of Dean guarding the 4 are a real concern.Just because he slides to the 5 for the 10 or so minutes that Cliff sits does not mean he also can’t play 10 minutes with Cliff on the floor. For sure. My point was if he doesn’t see time at the 4, it’s not because of the 10ish mpg we will need him to back Cliff up at the 5.It's possible he gets some minutes at the 4 but he doesn't fit the mold of what Pike has played at the 4 for years and years here. If he gets some minutes at the 4, we might see zone D
I really do believe Mag and Hyatt will both be improved offensively
