I remember reading a lot of posters wax poetic about Altman. Eugene O used to say how big an impact he had on his career, however most of his improvement happened under Pike. Oregon has a ton more NIL money than Rutgers, therefore pound for pound Pike's results this year are far more impactful than Altman's

Who cares...both coaches failed. No one gives a **** what their records were except they were both bad

Are you really throwing a party over a 14-19/6-14 record. Pikes worst in a long time

Oregon had 3 major injuries that made this season a disaster but its part of the game too bad

If Altman has another 4-16 or even 7-13 season his seat will be scorching hot and at 67 he maybe ready to retire soon

Guys been to 17 ncaa tourney and 9 of 15 seasons at Oregon with an Elite 8 and Final 4.

Bizarre thread

Yeah - they were bad because of injuries. Could happen to any team.

Washington, in my opinion, the biggest disappointment. Able to throw over 800K for Lathan to be their 3rd string center and still can’t make the tourney.

This Oregon writer questions whether Oregon has $5 or10 million for NIL

He says: My best guess is Oregon has a roster well under $10 million. It’s probably much closer to $5 million if I were making a bet. We never truly know numbers because they don’t have to be reported. But there are reports that suggest Kentucky spent close to $22 million on its roster. And others suggest you need to be in the $8 to $12 million range to be competitive. I would tend to think you need to probably be around $10 million to be competitive in the Big Ten.

EO was not close to an NBA player at Rutgers. He was after playing for Altman.

EO transfered 6 years ago.
Almost 7 years now?

Citing something 7 years ago, positive or negative, is getting a little desperate at this point.

Note - this is similar to the "Schiano 1.0 couldn't win in the Big East". You mean 20 years ago?

Exactly. This is where I’m at right now. 2024-25 was a disaster but not for reasons that are relevant to Pike’s future success (or lack of it). He was completely distracted and focused on Ace and Dylan but there will be a blizzard in July before Pike is in that situation again - so his mismanagement of it doesn’t matter for the future.

In my opinion, when evaluating his potential to succeed in the future I still have doubts but I think he made about as much progress as could’ve been hoped for with the group he had. He deserves some credit for what Tariq did - TF got better steadily throughout the season. So did Lino Mark and Buchanan. The guys with the most potential on the roster were developed. You can’t really blame his development for Ware not breaking out, for example. It’s most likely Ware was a long shot that isn’t going to contribute anywhere at the high major level in his career.

My point is that Altman is a good coach and he failed with a lot of NIL money. Which great coach is going to want to risk his career coaching Rutgers with no NIL. For all the people who want Pike gone, I've never heard of a guy they think could and would do better. When you have no money, you need a guy who is a good developer of talent as well as a good game day coach. Do I think Pike is the best? No, but he is top half of conference

Lol do you know the coaches in this league and their success. Pike unfortunately is ahead of only Rhodes and Sprinkle and maybe the OSU guy where there isnt enough data points. Its hyperbole like this that makes you seem like a troll. Your OP did the same with Altman

Altman in his career has run circles around Pike and 3/4 of the rest of the big ten and were using his first major failure to create a narrative he’s equal or less than Pike?

it’s a non discussion
